She underestimated Free Republic. She thought that she could push a lie in the middle of a Presidential campaign and not have any pushback. The times they are a changing.

It was effective and brilliant for one simple reason: it had the truth on its side. If the docs were authentic, even the most brilliant campaign would have failed.
