Please tell me in simple words just what the heck is going on with this stunt?

The way I see it, this is part of an orchestrated effort by what I call the Fifth Column Left to undermine President Bush and the War Effort.

The players are the DNC,rogue elements in CIA and State, and the old media.Harry Reid, Joe Wilson, Nicholas Kristoff of the NYT(who wrote an op/ed today calling for V.P.Cheney's resignation) are representative of these three elements of the Fifth Column.

Not only are we at war with Islamist Fascists, but we are at war internally with this Fifth Column that seeks to overthrow our government.

The Dem Senators wanted to have all the Republican Senators wear dresses for 3 hours... then they went into a closed-door session to decide on cotton... or gingham.

It's called "FEAR". The Dems know that the report on the pre-war intelligence will use the ACTUAL WORDS of high officials and compare them against the ACTUAL intelligence AT THE TIME.

They have read the tea leaves and know that the release of such a report will go very badly for them. So, like all brave Democrats, they want a new committee, a new approach, and a new opportunity to shape the outcome ... or .... failing that, they HAVE to inject enough politics into the report so that they can later claim that the report was "political" all along.

Think of it as "Pre-emptive Damage Control". :)

The fight for the SCOTUS is literally the fight for the soul of America. The Democratic Senate understands that, and will knife-fight to the end. The Republican Senate likes to be invited to Washington dinner parties.
