Ditto that, Dahoser! We read to our daughter from the time she was born. She taught herself to read and was reading entire books when she was 4! It takes involved, loving parents to raise a literate child!
I had a friend who had a baby sitter sit their kids who did nothing but read to them. They learned to read early. It was the strangest thing I ever saw to see them hand a 3 year old a menu, have him study it, and then look up and tell the waitress he would like the ham sandwhich.
