Speaking for myself, I'm cautiously optomistic that Alito will be confirmed. Democrats are backing away from their earlier filibuster threat.

Democrats are backing away from their earlier filibuster threat.Of course. They can count to 50. They'll never filibuster if they think it will be nuked. Their best bet is to reserve it for after 2006, in hopes of the GOP losing a seat or two. Then they can filibuster again, consequence free.
