I have been advocating an Israeli type fence across the entire border for almost a year and finally they are talking aobut it. Hunter said it will cost about a million bucks a mile or 2-6 billon dollars. Money well spent as far as I am concerned. Let's hope it actually happens.

I suspect that it could be built cheaper.

Probably, but this is not something we want to do on the cheap.
Remember every terrorist and illegal in the world will be trying to figure out how to beat this fence. We need to do it right initially and keep it well maintained. It worked in Israel and it will work here.

Agreed but I don't really trust the feds to get the best deal. I also agree that even at 2 to 6 billion dollars it's money well spent.

Rep. Duncan Hunter proposes massive border fence
By: North County Times -
Rep. Duncan Hunter, who represents parts of North and East County, has proposed a bill to build a fence along the entire 2,000-mile U.S.-Mexico border, a plan that could cost billions of dollars and that critics say would do little to stop illegal immigration.
Hunter, chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, announced his proposal Thursday to create a two-layer reinforced fence with lighting and sensors from the Pacific Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico, a 100-yard border zone to the north of the barriers, and 25 new ports of entry.
Most of the westernmost 14-mile stretch of the border is lined with parallel fencing and there's secure fencing at other vulnerable points, but long stretches of the border are protected only by patchy barbed wire or nothing at all.
A conservative group called Let Freedom Ring that is promoting a border fence estimates it would cost about $8 billion.
Local immigrant rights advocates have said they oppose the fence plan and that the government should spend more time addressing employment and economic problems to fight illegal immigration.

NO question that's how I feel. with all the dough we are pumping out now on illegals, the fence would be one of the cheapest things we do.
We need sensors, a moat, double fence, perimeter road patrolled by border patrol(and maybe minutement as well hoooahhh!!)camera and the works.

To be honest with you the money we spend on a fence is important since all money we spend now is borrowed but the fence is equally or more important IMHO.
It only takes a few of those 40,000 persons of interest from the middle east who are walking across now to ruin many a day over here.

IMHO if you want to know what to expect results wise from a fence, the only comp we have is Israel. Their terrorist attacks have almost ended since their fence was installed.
we should get the same result. Only we will stop millions of illegal border crossings as well.

Nothing sends up my blood pressure like this invasion. I live close up with the effects of it everyday. Don't get me started. ;-( It's a major crime to have ever allowed this to happen.
