Family members are investigating what they consider to be suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of a nursing home patient at the center of a life and death tug-of-war reminiscent of the Terri Schiavo tragedy.
Seventy-nine-year-old Jimmy Chambers died in the early morning hours of Oct. 24 after the tracheotomy tubes that deliver oxygen from a ventilator to a hole in his neck became unhooked. Family members were told Chambers, a resident of the Anne Maria Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in North Augusta, S.C., apparently pulled the interlocking tubes apart.
"We're having it investigated. We're just incredulous," Chambers' daughter, Deanna Potter, told WND in reference to her siblings. "The last time I saw dad he was blowing me a kiss. I blew him one and he blew one back."
The retired dispatcher for Holland Motor Express died approximately 10 hours later. His death certificate indicates he died of "natural causes."
"Apparently, suffocation is a 'natural cause' when you're on a ventilator. We're contesting that," said Potter. "He suffocated. He didn't just pass away. He struggled and fought. And I'm just so angry."
Potter estimates it would have taken 10 to 14 minutes for her father, deprived of oxygen, to fall unconscious, and questions why the nursing home staff didn't come to his aid.
"The oxygen-saturation meter and his ventilator both would have had alarms going off. Four-thirty, five o'clock in the morning you'd think someone would hear this," she added. "That's the thing that really bothers me and makes me suspicious."

Living wills, anyone??
PHILADELPHIA - After three decades of urging Americans to write living wills, many doctors, lawyers and ethicists concede that these documents have largely failed.
The problems are many: Most people don't complete living wills. When they do, too often the paper isn't available when decisions about life support must be made.
Living wills, intended to assure that patients' wishes are honored when they can't speak for themselves, rarely address the actual situations that arise. And many people don't really know in advance what treatments they would or wouldn't want.
"The 30 years of literature on living wills has shown very disappointing results," said Charles Sabatino, assistant director of the American Bar Association's Commission on Law and Aging. "The shortcomings of living wills are real. Dying is just too complicated."
A blistering indictment of living wills appeared last year in the Hastings Center Report, a well-known bioethics journal.
It began: "Enough. The living will has failed and it's time to say so."

"Our role as attorneys is to help explain so people understand they have options," McCarthy said.
"In my opinion, taking care of this is a very nice gift to give to your family," McCarthy said. "If your family knows what you want, it makes something very hard a little easier."
Today, ethics committee members will be available to answer questions about the right to privacy. Sessions will be held from 9-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. at GPRMC. Thursday, the topic will be patient rights, and at three 3 p.m. there will be a presentation on topics related to ethics in health care.

Dr. Osman sounds like a little ray of sunshine. Imagine the conversation at the dinner table when she's there. What ever you do, don't choke on your food around her.
And sure does help get one off the hook if there's any questions concerning that nice gift of a hefty life insurance. /s
He [Al Franken] skewers Republican leader Tom DeLay for saying proper medical care might have revived Schiavo as she remained in a vegetative state while politicians debated her fate.
"In other words, given proper treatment, there was no reason Terri Schiavo couldn't live out her lifelong dream of being a Rockette," Franken quipped.
Franken typifies the moronic reasoning of the far left, so enamored with supporting the cults of death they see humor in the suffering.
If this hero of Err Amerika can see humor in such a tragedy, he sees not his own evil.

8MM, this makes my skin crawl. I was just a few miles from North Platte, in St. Paul, NE on the 8th, burying my Dad. Wish I had known about this, I would've shown up for it.

Judges often will look at media coverage to see if someone fits the criteria to be a public figure. But in the Thomas case, there hadn't been any traditional media coverage; only internet denizens had been involved.

I still wonder if one of Michael Schiavo's girlfriends had a key to the apartment, and if she or some male friend of hers confronted Terri that night.
That could explain why Terri did not seem afraid of Michael in the early pictures of them together after the "event."
These crooked judges and lawyers won't be able to hide any longer.

What is the hair sample for?
He had been hospitalized in the proceeding months with undignosed stomach and health problems. His wife may have been poisoning him. His mother cut a hair sample, in the fall if I remember correctly and just sent it off to be tested.
