Perhaps the state SHOULD be forced into INVOLUNTARY bankruptcy and have a federal trustee appointed to examine all the books.
After all since the left worships judges, this would put the bankruptcy judge in firm control of the state. No messy middleman legislature. Only a court provided for in the Federal constitution.
Yep Jindal would have made a world of difference, both in real terms and pr which appears in reality to be just as important. Blanco has one final chance with this special session. There was a rumor that there was senate revolt brewing with an change of leadership from Blancos guy to Sen Cravins. We will see. I hate to say this to everyone but without Federal assistance for reconstruction this state is in serious jeopardy. The special session is going to be reality time. The cuts I am hearing are quite huge. Louisiana's I think are going to be shocked. Most fearsome is the cuts to higher education and to hospitals. It should be interesting.
Dont worry the cuts are starting to come this coming week huge ones.
It's going to be bloody but it has to be done. I hope you are right about the senate revolt.
I have to admit I have mixed feelings on a revolt. I really dislike Sen Hines for some reason and really like Sen Cravins. I think Cravins can get considerable supports from the Repub Senators as well as maybe from the black state Sen. COuld cleo not vote against the first Black Sen Pres. However if Blanco got her stuff together ramming this tough package through without the legislature trying to protect their own turf might be a good thing. It just depends on how strong she is politically
I say cut, cut, cut! The cuts won't hurt the working stiffs of this state nearly as hard as the freeloaders.
Sadly, I don't think it is an act....
It is very unfortunate since the very thing LA needs to pay the bills, more Federal largesse, will just make the state ever more dependent on Washington, and make it ever more difficult to pull out of the cycle.
And this plan to rebuild the slums in situ... O gloriam meam...
One thing though is that the scrutiny seems to be pretty good so as long as the light is being shown on the shenanigans there's a little ray of hope. The truth is the state has been getting more and more conservative but the NOLA dem machine has been the reason why we couldn't seem to get any traction in statewide elections. We did elect Vitter during the last senatorial elections. He was the first Republican to win since reconstruction.
What we need is for FEMA to go away. They are horribly bureaucratic and wasteful.
It's costing $38K per travel trailer to put some evacuees up fot 18 months. They aren't even asking the evacuees if they want to stay, return, or what. It's a total joke.
I'm not in need like many here but we have to put a stop to the waste.
Yes, that seems work.
She's not "acting" - she's "stuck on stupid"
I just hope they don't cut the TOPS program. My daughter gets it.
That could go a long way in actually buying a modest home. There is so much waste with FEMA it's ridiculous.
The supposition now being that all instances of storm damaged will be paid for by some form of government.
