PARIS, Nov. 4 (UPI) -- French Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy has suggested organized gangs may be behind the violence sweeping Paris suburbs.
"We were struck to see in departments -- notably Seine Saint Denis -- a large organization" behind the rioting that has swept the gritty suburbs ringing the French capital, Sarkozy told reporters Friday.
"And all of this doesn't appear to us to be completely spontaneous," he added. "We're trying to work in depth on all of these subjects."
Sarkozy's remarks echo those of other experts and law enforcement officials who believe criminal gangs and possibly Islamist movements might be fueling near nightly clashes between youths and police outside Paris in recent days.
On Thursday, police reported few violent incidents -- apart from arson attacks on 600 vehicles in the region.
But immigration expert Catherine Wihtol de Wenden downplayed chances the perpetrators of the violence -- ethnic immigrant youths, many of them of Muslim-North African origin -- were being fueled by radical Islam.
"I think most of these youths aren't practicing their religion strongly," said de Wenden, research director at the Paris-based Center of Political Studies and Research, said in an interview.
"I think there is no link between Islam and violence," she added.

She'll say the same thing in 5 years behind her burkah.
I had a feeling that the first comment would refer to that quote.
"I think there is no link between Islam and violence," she added.
LOL!! Yeah, right.
Minor league terrorists.
Boy now here is a deep thinker. That's like saying there is no connection between clouds and rain.
No wonder France is in the trouble their in.....
Waiting for US riots.
See my update here.
Nine people detained in a series of raids west of Paris Monday are suspected members of the GSPC, officials have said. They were being questioned for a second day Tuesday at the headquarters of the DST domestic intelligence agency.
She exhibits the mindset behind the riots. DENIAL and REFUSAL to accept responsibility. It's like Bagdad Bob all over again,,,,denying the obvious and looking stupid with a straight face.
Who, in her opinion, is the group that declares 'jihads' - the Mormons?
A Darwin Award!
How stupid can people be?!?
"Waiting for US riots."
We're armed.
It's time to call this what it really is-an insurrection.
Classic moonbat droppings, French (spit ... spit) style.
I do hope she has a long and slender kneck. It makes it so much easier to hack off the head that way.

Le jihad?

OK, Madame Wihtol de Wenden...here's your sign.
Of course not.
President Bush called it the "Religion of Peace," right?
So the riots have no relation at all to Islam? Think again, Catherine.

Give the gangs skills for IEDs. I bet the French will collpase just for several IEDs to kill off some stinking French.
" criminal gangs and possibly Islamist movements "
There's a difference?
These appear to be more racial than religious, and not riots in the usual sense of the word but small roving bands committing acts of vandalism.
It's possible, but consider this bit about the school district that serves the area in which I live:
"The Richardson Independent School District, which has the highest number of exemplary schools in Texas, 17 according to Texas Education Agency ratings, has consistently performed well despite a formidable challenge: The district's students come from backgrounds that embrace 67 different languages."
If I drive around the commercial areas near where I live it's like going to 20 different countries. Yet we have no street violence at all. However, several people of Middle Eastern descent were arrested a couple of years back for running a charity whose real purpose was to finance terrorists.

Drug gangs. The police crackdown was hurting their business.
At least she is thinking (albeit wrongly) and not feeling.
In fact, it might be a good idea to start now, so we will be ahead of the curve.

In God We Trust
..Semper Fi!
Drugs are one of the major sources of income for terrorists.
They don't belong to an organized gang, they're DEMOCRATZ!...............
'"'I think there is no link between Islam and violence,' she added."
Surely this deserves some kind of an award.'
Give me the award too, then.
She's right.
There is no link between Islam and this.
Now that there are riots around France. It will be interesting to see how France---we must "not invade Iraq" is going to handle the new reality of world Muslim terrorism and terrorist wannabes. France is the country that banned the wearing of head scarfs in school by Muslim girls and then tried to figure out a way to defuse the potential crisis. France is a country that demands "conformity" and holds its language and culture as needing protection for any forms of change.
France is on a collision course with reality and considering the dirty tricks they have played on the US in the past, payback will be interesting to watch.
Lets add all of this up. All of these people...either themselves or their parents...gave up on their Muslim homelands because there weren't ahead financially. They saw corruption throughout their local government. They saw absolutely no democracy in their Muslim homelands. So they came to France, Germany, Denmark, Italy, and the Netherlands. Suddenly, they saw vast increase in thier income. They saw a house that was twice as good as the old one They had electricity 24 hours a day. They didn't have a Mullah knocking at their door to ask why they weren't at prayers. But as time went by, they really didn't attempt to integrate into the local society. They didn't blend in or take the education required. They got the second-rate jobs. They were no longer satisfied with the basic income they were making. They were unhappy with the slums they had created by sticking to thier own brotherhood. Crime expanded out of this situation. Gangs were part of the culture, and drugs were the method of making an income. Have I missed anything?
In every single country mentioned above....there is an effort to "fix" this problem. The natives are tired of thier behavior and sick of the no integration into their society. These punks who think they are settling a score...are simply opening doors for politicians to discuss terminating the neighborhoods involved, and getting people to move back to thier old homeland. Its only a matter of time.
"France is on a collision course with reality and considering the dirty tricks they have played on the US in the past, payback will be interesting to watch."
"Payback." Interesting.
Are you suggesting that the US has something to do with these riots?
Well, unless you count the high rate of Islamic violence every place Islam exists... or unless you listen to what the people speaking loudest for Islam say, which is that they want to kill everybody who isn't one of them and about 2/3 of the ones who are.
On Thursday, police reported few violent incidents -- apart from arson attacks on 600 vehicles in the region.
Yup, and other than that, 4 cops shot by rioters and a disabled woman trapped on a bus, doused with petrol and set on fire by same - it was a calm, peaceful night!
They acted up in concert with the night of power during Ramadan. No coincidence. I even wonder if anyone was electrocuted or if that's another victim of the truth.
kneck? What the ...
Yeh, you know, the thing that knecks your head to your shoulders.
ping
It sure doesn't take much to confuse me.
I think about Kn ives cutting off heads and right away neck becomes kn eck. ;)

"There is no link between Islam and this."
There is something like 40 armed conflicts going on in the world right now.
IIRC, about 85% of them involve Muslims.
She said, "I think there is no link between Islam and violence".
She is a fool.
She would probably be at least partially right if she had said "I see no link between Islam and the current violence". From what I read the current situation is not a case of islamofascist terrorist attacks against French infidels. That will come later. Right now this is more like the race riots that have occurred here. But the undercurrent of islam is certainly present and you can bet the house that the islamofascist terror groups have a hand in encouraging this and will leap to exploit it by pushing hard to recruit members inside these French ghettos.
I think that the French authorities are stymied on how to handle this. If they take effective measures to extinguish the riots they fuel the hatred and resentment that lead young moslem men to islamofascism and terror attacks. If they stand back and let the criminal gangs and disaffected malcontents retain control of these places they leave large recruiting grounds open for the terrorists as it is from criminals and malcontents that they get virtually all their members. Their choices here are between terrorist groups exploding into action in the short run or the long run.
They could also choose to forceably deport several million people but the problems with this approach are huge. First they would have to actually round up all these people. Then they would have to find somewhere to send them. There is no guarantee that Mali, Morocco, Algeria, etc. would allow these people to come back. The French might have to use force (or a credible threat of force) to get other nations to take these people in. Even if the French authorities could be certain that millions of deportations would be accepted by other nations it is unlikely that these millions would go quietly. It it is quite likely that major police and probably military action would be needed to remove them all. An attempt to deport all these people could easily result in insurrection on a very dangerous scale.
The Europeans have left themselves wide open to this. Their short-sighted foolishness could very easily result in a conflict of immense proportions. I see no easy way out of their predicament.
I bet she's already bought a one way plane ticket out of France. They all have.
"I see no easy way out of their predicament."
The very definition of...
"to be hoist with one's own petard"
You missed the part where Muslims made sure Muslim women and girls got little or no education and were raised to know their place...behind the family goat.
