Nice reaction and good shooting Khalid. Lock and load for any revenge seekers. Maybe your neighbors will pitch in and help. Any time a felon gets ventilated during the commission of a crime, it's a good day.

Pushing back slightly on the slide of most auto pistols will push it out of battery, disabling it.
Best to not press a 1911, etc, hard into the back of someone or you may disable it yourself.
It would be a gutsy move to attempt such a maneuver, much like the clerk grabbing the cylinder of the revolver.

As I understand it, most (if not all) semis must have the slide completely closed before it can fire (a safety feature, I presume). Think of it as in interlock system.
Therefore, in theory, if we push on the slide so that it exposes the chamber, even slightly, we prevent the gun from firing. Having the slide slightly open is what is meant by "out of battery."

Yep, and that area has had some problems. There was a shooting at a store in the very intersection a number of years back, but I think the clerk ended up dead in that one. A block over, three Blockbuster employees were murdered during a robbery. The punk who did it later said he was too high to remember doing it, but that "they must have done something wrong to make me shoot them."
