Only if they got wet after they were dried out.

Mud bricks and rammed earth are great building materials in dry climates. (Or a damp place where you can protect it from water.) There are 2000 year old rammed earth homes in Turkey as well.

My grandmother commented after moving from their sod house out on a ranch into town that she didn't understand why anyone wanted to live in the cold and drafty frame houses.

Parts of the Great Wall Of China is made from tamped earth and grass/twigs.
