Yep.
In the old (~1979-ish) version it goes:
YOU ARE IN THE GIANT ROOM. THE CEILING
HERE IS TOO HIGH UP FOR YOUR LAMP TO
SHOW IT. CAVERNOUS PASSAGES LEAD EAST,
NORTH, AND SOUTH. ON THE WEST WALL IS
SCRAWLED THE INSCRIPTION, FEE FIE FOE
FOO (SIC).
THERE IS A LARGE NEST HERE, FULL OF GOLDEN EGGS!
You toss the eggs to the troll to pass over the chasm. You can get them back though.
Funny I remember silly crap like that verbatim, but cant remember more recent important stuff.
Whatever.
xyzzzy!
PLUGH
Adventure was then, and still is the best text based game ever written. It combined humor and fantasy in a way that provided hundreds of hours of entertainment for millions of computer users. I think the author was Scott Adams (not the cartoonist). I always enjoyed the room with a view.
Thanks Scott, wherever you are.
I have a PC version of that and the original Zelda Nintendo games. Both are simple and elegant.
