Meet the Press: A Plague in a Bubble
Oregon Magazine ^ | November 5, 2005 | Larry Leonard

Posted on 11/05/2005 3:15:52 AM PST by WaterDragon

Beginning with a panel of key staffers from the Carter (Hamilton Jordan), Reagan (Ken Duberstein) and Clinton (Leon Panetta) administrations, this edition of Meet the Press muffed it at every point. History for the past two and a half decades, current events -- all were presented and interpreted incorrectly, as far as I could see. Every observation they made was junk, every analysis they offered was incorrect, every suggestion they offered was wrong. This describes everybody in the first half of the program, even (sad to say) Duberstein on a key point or two. The Beltway disease is a plague in a bubble. Only those with the strength of a Reagan or Bush II have the anti-bodies for it....

Then, there was Bubba. Good old Bubba. He began by renting bedroom visits to the White House. Trading them for campaign donations. Then he stained the rug in the Oval Office, damn near destroyed our military, gave MIRV technology to China, a nuclear program to North Korea and joining the Democrats who controlled congress at the time, actually did manage to blunt the Reagan economic boom with his early first term tax increases. After that, he turned a part of Utah that contained low sulphur (clean burning) coal into a national park so that the Riadys, who were very, very enthusiastic foreign political friends of his, could sell their Indonesian coal to the Chinese for use in their big new power plant in southern China. Taxpayer paid safaries for hundreds of sycophants to Africa, campaign donation morning coffees in the White House, bags of sequentially-numbered money orders delivered to the back porch of the national residence, sexcapades ranging from cigars as sensual implements to believeable charges or outright rape, cattle futures windfall profits, legal papers found in the trunks of cars in southern wrecking yards, hundreds of purloined FBI files, thousands of dead Christians from Zimbabwe to the Sudan to China to Waco, Texas, Elian Gonzales, impeachment in the U.S. House of Representatives, conviction of the president for perjuy by a federal judge -- the list is endless.

Great post! The same disease infects most legislators and political appointees once the cameras come on and the lights shine on their "important" jobs inside the Beltway. A few have the moral courage and backbone and HUMILITY to resist the disease, but too often Mr. Smith truly is only a figment of the movie imagination.

I SAW that 'episode' of MTP and was screaming at the TV like a maniac. The neighbors must'a thought I was losing my mind.

After the hurricane reporting, I don't believe much of anything I hear on the news now. I've slopped hogs in my day, and I know hogwash when I see it.

Well said! The fact that MTP has to trot out idiots from the carter regime speaks volumes. They are bloody DESPERATE to find some validity in their endless rants. The rats have nothing!

They are now spinning and distorting BS.

What a powerful article. When mentioning the leftist media, down here in Atlanta we have the AJC, or otherwise known as the Al Jerzera Constitution. Georgia goes 60% for Bush and if you only got your news from the AJC you would think I live in NYC. Also lets not forget the Commie News Network is stationed here.

The internet is the greatest invention since sliced bread (thanks, Al Gore)we now can actually get the truth. Even several versions of the truth. We have a choice, no longer do we have to take Walter and Dan's word for stuff.

Though, I fear McCain/Feingold and other such attemptes to dismantle the first amendment. The Left is losing power so quickly that they must come after us. They are not gonna go quietly into the night. Get ready for the fight of a lifetime.

I'm a regular viewer of MTP. Over the past seveal weeks, there were about a dozen or so total "journalist" panelists. Only two or three (tops) were even approaching conservative. Makes for pretty boring TV, so I usually start my laundry during the second half of MTP.

I didn't know there was anyone in Oregon that thought or wrote like this. A keeper for sure, and worth a 2008 comparison to see how his predictions pan out.

Yup'er Johnnie!

I still remember a split screen on CNN during the historic Impeachment Vote on the House floor.

On the left screen was live shots of anti-aircraft guns going off on the roofs of Baghdad, and bombs going off in the distance. This bombing was ordered by Clinton only hours before the vote.

On the right side of the screen was the Impeachment vote taking place.

The whole spectacle reminded me of a 3 year old breaking his toys because he couldn't get his way.

Guess a symptom of Beltway disease isn't a compulsion towards grotesqu spending increases and a program and Czar for every problem.

Only those with the strength of a Reagan or Bush II have the anti-bodies for it....

Terrific article.

I'm to the point I can't watch the MSM. When the National News comes on, I change the channel.
What's the point?
You know what is coming next.

Sunday morning I'm cooking breakfast and watching Little House on the Prairie reruns or the like.

Most of the 'analysts/ hosts/guests are affiliated with or are ex-dim administration lackeys.

BTW..
IMHO we really need to make a list of the news men/babes and their associations with administrations/parties.
Keep it in Alamo Girl's library.
