Warren Beatty blocked from entering Schwarzenegger campaign rally

SAN DIEGO -- Warren Beatty and his wife Annette Bening on Saturday attempted to crash a campaign appearance by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger who sought to drum up last-minute support for a group of statewide ballot measures.

The Hollywood couple were stopped by one of Schwarzenegger's campaign officials at the entrance of an airport hangar where several hundred of the governor's supporters had gathered.

Beatty was told by Schwarzenegger aide, Darrel Ng, that the "Bulworth" star was not on the guest list and didn't have the appropriate wristband to get inside.

"You have to have a wristband to listen the governor?" Bening asked. "He represents all of us, right?"

Despite Beatty saying he and his wife would remain quiet when Schwarzenegger arrived, the hangar door was initially closed but reopened when the governor told the crowd that change was necessary in Sacramento.

"We have to recall and reform the broken system," Schwarzenegger said. "This is our chance now to reform this system."

Beatty's appearance drew the ire of some of the governor's supporters who called Beatty a Hollywood liberal and a has-been actor.

"It's time for some people to retire," said former San Diego Mayor Roger Hedgecock, who hosts a popular radio talk show. "I'm trying to be gentle about it but it's clear that Warren is over the hill and desperately looking for something else to do."

I guess we can count on Beatty and Bening to support the Governor's agenda.

Ah-nuld is being fought by the unions and the MSM in California in the most dastardly of ways. I for one admire him for being a politician who is willing to take a real leadership position and go out and fight for that position. If he wants to keep Beatty out, good for him. Beatty just wanted to turn it into a media even focusing on him and Bening. Warren is just desperately searching for relevance.

sounds like Beatty doing his Arriana Huffington imitation .. but it's hard, even for him, to stoop that low.

Schwarzenegger was a guest on the John and Ken show the other afternoon. He gave pretty good defenses of the initiatives he is supporting. I have yet to hear Schwarzenegger act mean or vindictive of people who disagree with him, although he does throw a few good natured barbs at people, such as calling the legislators in Sacramento 'Girlie men'.

During the interview John and Ken asked Schwarzenegger a question that dovetails with this thread.

Evidently the Schwarzeneggers and Beattys were at a social function not long ago. At the function Warren was bad mouthing Arnold loudly, while sitting at the next table. Arnold didn't say anything, but thought it was a rather childish thing to do on pupose knowing the governor would hear him.

At one point Maria attempted to say hi to Annette, but Annette shined her on and wouldn't talk to her. Arnold said that hurt Maria's feelings as they'd been pretty good friends before Arnold became governor.

I guess this is rather petty, but even though the Beattys had been negative about Arnold, Maria still tried to be friendly. The dems just seem to live by different standards. Perhaps Maria will begin to see what the 'other-half' has had to put up with all these years.

Petty, petty, petty, and a sign of desperation and weakness.

Yes, I believe it is a sign of desparation and weakness. I remember as a kid watching the left destroy Nixon and deprive the U.S. of a clear victory in Vietnam.

Today, they are doing their damndest to do a repeat.

I must admit, I am quite often shocked to see how agressively the left will marginalize itself in the quest for an anti-U.S. victory. Even so, the media casts them as patriotic while fronting for the same goals as the worst (in)humans on the planet.

I heard a Scharzenneger radio interview yesterday and it was clear friction was building between the Beattys and him. He said Maria and Bening had been good friends previously but Bening refused to speak to Maria at a recent event they both attended. Arnold said he admires Beatty and doesn't mind his political opposition but wished it wasn't so personal.

It seems pretty obvious Beatty's getting ready for a political run of his own. I'll never forget his movie "Reds" and his obvious admiration for John Reed, the American journalist and enabler of the Bolsheviks who served as a bagman for Comintern funding of the American Communist Party. Nice role model.

Yeah, kind of like we have to have a ticket to see a movie. What gives with that?

Let them snub each other until the sky falls on them.

When they starting attacking each other; it's over for them.

It must be difficult for Maria on many fronts. She's a born and bred democrat and the niece of two slain prominent democrats. Her sympathies to her extended family conflict with her loyalties to her husband.

Tough spot to be in, but she's handled it, IMHO, with class and dignity. I have enourmous respect for her.

It must hurt her to have old friends turn their back on her, but sometimes it's worth it to find out who your true friends are. I'm sure she's learning a lot about many people she thought she knew well.

I wonder if we don't sometimes lose opportunities to make inroads with people like Maria, by failing to drop them a line when they do things we can support. I too think she's handled a tough situation with grace. I also think her husband has done some things that probably made her pretty happy, since taking office. I won't, and don't think we need to support that. I do think we should support the things we can and remove the guy before he does more damage.
