Argentina and Brazil in particular want cutbacks in U.S. agricultural subsidies to level the playing field. As if NAFTA and WTO weren't enough (thousands upon thousands of pages of regulations vomited forth) we surely need FTAA like we need another head.
Next time, do America a favor and stay home Senor el presidente Bush.

Things getting boring over at DU??
To: FerdieMurphy
It is interesting how this was initiated durng the previous administration and Bush gets the blame. When Clinton roamed the world promoting this stuff it was wonderful.

I wonder how much more prosperous America would be today if not for the protectionists holding our economy back over time. We certainly wouldn't have a budget deficit. We might not even have substantial national debt.

I don't believe he should continue to attempt carrying things one step further.
I see the whole purpose of this FTAA is to make it easier to fold the USA into a NWO.

Why does Dubya even bother going to these things? He can palaver with anyone he wants to at the WH or the ranch. No rioters, no one there he doesn't want.

Why does Dubya even bother going to these things? That was my point.
Then these deep thinkers begin to hurl insults about my belonging on a DemocRAT forum which is plain neo-conservative hogwash.

Why does Dubya even bother going to these things?
Because Mr. Bush is fully signed on to the "free trader" bandwagon. Each of these summits produces an "action plan" that member countries are required to fulfill.
Previous "action plans" from the Summit of the americas inlcude:
lowered remittance costs for illegal immigrants
bilingual education for illegal and legal immigrants
social security that is portable across borders, whether the employed is a legal worker or not
special protections for illegal immigrant workers
Look at the Quebec Summit for their directives on Migrants. Each and every one of these directives has been fulfilled by our government. Each one of these directives is a usurpation of the right of citizens of the United States to develope their own domestic policies--its called the consent of the governed.
