Before police intervened, the angry demonstrators reached the entrance to the Patriarchal compound, and placed a black wreath in front of the gate.

There was a past Ecumenical Patriarch who was actually hanged at the gates of the Patriarchate and the church has never used those gates again in memorial. They build an entrance elsewhere.
This is no cooincidence as paris is burning.
In case anyone is wondering, I DID try to find an MSM report on this and have found nothing reported.
There probably is nothing except in the Greek and maybe the rest of the Balkans press. Unfortunately, our dear allies the Turks attack the Phanar with some regularity. Just about a year ago they attacked with a bomb. I wouldn't expect the media, left or right wing, here to say anything. The left will be quiet because it might stir an "anti moslem" response and that would never do for the Dems. The right will say nothing because this administration is as astonishingly Turkophile as any we've ever had and heaven forefend that any Republican be caught not backing the pres. 100% on his Islam is TROP foreign policy.
The Patriarcahate was in the city for a millenium before the Turks took the city.
As I read this, I was listening to a CAIR spokesman bewailing the fact that a school district dropped all religious holidays rather than adopt one for their Eid al Fitr (sp?). He was so upset that they wouldn't be inclusive.
C.A.I.R. has issued a mini-fatwa" against Bill O'Reilly in the form of a "polite" email campaign for his remarks on the Hillsbourough County, FL school decision. You can find it on their website under action alerts. Unless he buckled and they took it off. It was there 2 days ago.
CAIR exists to promote the apathy of the ignorant.
They are "me too" propagandists for the useful idiots.

Putting CAIR on a news program is like putting Jerry Springer guests on Fox News Sunday's round table to discuss the interest rates as they relate to inflation in the global ecconomy.
Perhaps we should put a ratings fatwa on CAIR appearances on FNC. We simple tell FNC that any time a CAIR representative is on FNC, we will change the channel.
