Because it doesn't belong in a public school. Religion is the domain of the parents unless you have placed your child in a parochial school. Period.
I read the Bible in government schools -- The Bible as Literature. Further, the Bible is a historical and foundational document for both America and Western Europe and therefore Western Civilization. Banning it makes COMPLETE education impossible.
See #15. If the majority of parents and the school board wish to hand out bibles, there is no Constitutional reason to prevent it. The socialist Roosevelt court unconstitutionally decided to forcibly remove prayer from public schools.
I agree with you about the actual teaching of Religion, but these kids were not being forced to hear the tenets of Christianity, just given the opportunity to get a Bible if their parents gave their permission. I have no problem with any religion doing this with my kids as long as I know and have the right to deny permission.
"Because it does not belong in a public school."
Where is your proof? So, if a community agreed via the democratic process established in our Republic that it is acceptable for the inclusion of the Bible in their local schools, you would attempt to overturn the majority's decision? Furthermore, where in the Constitution is the Bible outlawed in a public school? Please cite the exact language.
I'm with you.
