New Epithet for Islamic Terrorist: "Somali Pirate" By Debbie Schlussel
Congratulations to the media! They've just developed a new way to avoid saying "Islamic terrorist."
You've, no doubt, heard the news story of Islamic terrorists from Somalia trying to hijack a cruise line, off the coast of Africa, this weekend. The men were armed with assorted weapons, including guns and grenade launchers.
But the media called them "Somali pirates." Guess what religion virtually all Somalis are? Hint: It begins with an "I," ends with an "M," and has "SLA" in the middle. Here's another hint: The leader of the "Somali Pirates" is named Mohamed Abdi Hassan, clearly an Islamic name.
No mention of the religion or that these terrorists are likely tied to Al Qaeda, which has a huge presence in Somalia, anywhere in mainstream media reports, though. I guess they forgot about Qaeda's "Black Hawk Down."
Hmmm . . . Trying to hijack a ship full of innocent people, using weapons that will kill them. Sounds like terrorism to me.
But the media just won't bring themselves to call them what they are: Islamic terrorists.
Gee, I wonder what, today, they'd call the scum who hijacked the Achille Lauro and murdered Leon Klinghoffer. Since they'd shy away from putting the now-exalted "Palestinian" in front of "pirates," I think the choice phrase would be "alternatively-heritaged pirates."
Yup, Leon Klinghoffer was murdered by "alternatively-heritaged pirates" whose religion didn't hijack the Achille Lauro. The differently-heritaged pirates hijacked Islam. Right?

Not every pirate is an Osama acolyte. Piracy, especially in the Indian ocean and parts of the S.W. Pacific are pretty common.
Methinks ole Deb is taking an easy shot at the MSM and no one is going to be in a position to prove her wrong.

The information that is available supports "Somali Pirates." Anything further is speculation and does not belong in "news" stories. It might make a nice editorial or commentary but there is no more actual information, thus it is not news. We don't like it when "news" stories include assumptions and speculation that is unfavorable to our own beliefs.

Sorry, but I have been following the weekly piracy report ( http://www.icc-ccs.org/prc/piracyreport.php ) for the last few years, and piracy has been rampant off the coast of Somalia all that time. They are called "somali pirates".
Just last week there were 33 acts of piracy of ships.
I don't doubt that this might have been an act of terrorism, but Somali pirates are so damn bold it is beyond belief.
Ships do not report their position when near the coast of Somalia because the pirates monitor the radios.
Go to the web site and read the reports. It will scare you to death.
Oh well, back to floggin' the Frogs...
I don't have a bunch of extra bucks. I am old, ugly, and somewhat disabled, but if any of you will charter a yacht, load it up with a few old squirrel hunters like me, and just go to trolling off the Somali coast, give me a shout!
I have a couple of very fine old rifles, and a decent ration of ammo, and an aversion to dying of boredom!
All you need to do is get me there, and provide a couple of cans of Vienna sausages, to keep me going.
