Actually, such a deterrent does exist. ....and it involves pigs / pig products.

General "Black Jack" Pershing used pigs to great effect in the Phillipines in the early 20th century. He tied 50 Muslim terrorists to posts for execution, and then slaughtered a couple pigs in front of the condemned men and soaked his soon-to-be-fired rounds in the pigs' blood. 49 of the Muslims were then shot and promptly buried in a mass grave with the pig parts. Pershing then allowed the lucky 50th to go back and report what he had seen. The attacks against US servicemen stopped in Moro Province immediately....

Of course, this is no way to win "hearts and minds."

During desert storm we watched some of the the dead iraqi's and syrians being buried. We made a point of demanding they be buried on their side facing "away" from Mecca....the muslims burying them in mass graves said no that was not possible. We stayed long enough to make sure it was possible......just a small token of our respect for their efforts per se....:o)
