GUATEMALA CITY (AP) - Police found the corpses of three women - one cut in pieces, one stoned to death and another with bullet wounds - in Guatemala City on Monday.
The findings bring the total of women murdered this year in Guatemala to 549, in violence that has provoked outrage from human rights groups.
One of the corpses had been cut into four pieces, which were put inside garbage bags and left in an industrial neiIn the last five years, more than 2,000 Guatemalan women have been killed, human rights groups say.
Police blame drug traffickers and gang members for the murders.

Why would drug traffickers, or even gang members, be running around killing large numbers of women, in such horrific fashion?
Guatemala seems to be one of the world's slimier swamps. Muchas gracias to nosotros Presidente, Sr. Bush, for allowing so many of these primative people to come to the USA, visa free!

Then again the Drug Trade and the Slave Trade of Human flesh are separated by only seconds on the clock, they are but one in the same only to be tallied in different columns at the end of the day.

The opposing forces in Guatemala are indigenous Indians, who were subjected to government backed death squads who killed indescriminately, and Jehovah Witnessers, who have usupted the Catholic religion and the government, and tried to convert Indians into polyester-wearing drones.
They do not. They have probably killed the same number of men, but those fatalities do not count, according to "human rights groups."
Drugs play a huge role nowadays, even without as much of the ethnic slaughter of past decades. A lot of the expensive skyline (offices and residences) in Guatemala City is owned by drug lords. The Federales are camped out everywhere, supermarkets with machine-gun mounted jeeps parked outside, etc. Spills over into the countryside where people still get away with hell.
Having spent a week there this past summer, I can't say that I agree with you. I felt safe on the streets, despite the very hevily armed guards at each bank.
Then again, we were in the NW part of Guatemala (Peten area), and based in Flores.
Some amazing and wonderful people, beautiful children, and some very hard working folks. I have heard that Guatemala City is quite different, but I just don't believe the entire country is as described.
