Let me rephrase that. The conservatives *must* gain power. For nature abhors a vacuum. If the conservatives do not gain power, there are others of a more extreme orientation who will eventually be able to gain the support of the police and the army. They could seize power outright. Do not underestimate the potential for extreme swings toward procrustean thinking, even in decadent, secular France. Imagine how shocked people were at the demise of the Weimar Republic.

This is really bad news. Its is like when someone lets their kid get away with murder for a while, then decides to crack the whip and get him under control. The potential for "overshoot" and "over-reaction" are very high right now.

And we know how the Godless Europeans act when they decide to eliminate an "undesirable" element.

I cannot believe they are just letting this happen: declare marshal law, put the military on the streets and shoot anyone who is out after curfew.
