France Public Announcement November 07, 2005

This Public Announcement is issued to alert Americans to ongoing security concerns in France. Significant unrest that began in the northern suburbs of Paris October 27 has now spread to several locations within the city limits of Paris, and to many other cities throughout France. Angry youth have set fire to many buildings and thousands of vehicles. While damage to property has been extensive, there seems to be no pattern of arsonists directing their anger at ordinary citizens or tourists. This Public Announcement will expire on December 7, 2005.

Travelers should be alert to news media reports for the most up-to-date information, avoid areas where riots have occurred, move quickly away from any demonstrations they may encounter, and exercise particular caution during evening and nighttime hours.

Travelers using the Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris should be aware that train service between the airport and Paris runs through an affected area and has occasionally been disrupted. Travelers should rely instead on airport buses or taxis to downtown Paris.

Travelers in France who need assistance may contact the U.S. Embassy at 01-4312-2222, or by email at: citizeninfo@state.gov. The Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Paris is located at 2 Rue St. Florentin, 75001 Paris (Place de La Concorde, Metro Stop Concorde), tel. 011-33-1-43-12-22-22 or (in France) 01-43-12-22-22; fax 011-33-1-42-61-61-40. Further information can be obtained at the U.S. Embassy's web site at http://france.usembassy.gov/.

For the latest security information, Americans living and traveling abroad should regularly monitor the Department's Bureau of Consular Affairs Internet web site at http://travel.state.gov/, where the current Worldwide Caution, Public Announcements, and Travel Warnings can be found. Up-to-date information on security can also be obtained by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll free in the U.S., or, for callers outside the U.S. and Canada, a regular toll line at 1-317-472-2328. These numbers are available from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday (except U.S. federal holidays).

I work in the U.S. side of a French based company. Since we travel frequently to Paris for work, our travel department just issued this notice from the U.S. Department of State. The train from the airport to Paris does go through the muslim areas and they target foreigners for robbery - has my wallet lifted from my pocket once on that train. It's not safe on the good days. I'd hate to see what it's like now.

I'd think you have confidence in the tough but sensitive and intelligent French law enforcement professionals?

FYI:

from your title it would seem as if France issued the statement.

I read in entirety to find its a US announcement.

This is the beginning of the New European Jihad according to Steve Quayle last night on Coast2Coast. There are 300 towns burning in France and the jihad hasspread into Belgium and Germany. Northern France, near Tours, is burning nearby the site where Charles Martel defeated Moslems in about 732 in the Battle of Tours. Martel's victory saved Europe from domination by jihadists.

http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/03629a.htm

Now the jihadis are coming back for a victory over the decdent Froggies who are too complacent to care.

According to Quayle, Los Angeles is the next city on the jihadi's list. Think Beverley Hills and the film industry as target #1.

Now is the time for all Americans who wish to show solidarity with France to book a flighgt to Paris and show the rest of us racist American dogs the truth...

I bet there are plane loads of elitist Parisian pussies landing at JFK by the hour, looking for limousines to their Manhattan townhouses.

Anyone able to look in to first class flight frequency out of Paris over the last week..?

My company's travel department passes along these warnings too, although not this one yet. But they're usually about some place like Somalia. I never thought I'd see one about Paris.

I just keep thinking Chirac wanted to see if it would just burn itself out. Those areas have been extremely dnagerous for a very long time. The native French I know at work tell horror stories from years ago about public busses being attacked and destroyed when the city decided to open public transportation in those areas. After the inaugural bus run, there wasn't much left of the first bus! Hence, they now don't have local public transportation anymore.

"Unfortunately, there is no de Gaulle to take charge and create a Sixth Republic."

There is a fearless forecast out there (which is five hundred years old) that the ultimate successor government is a monarchy.

How many French soldiers does it take to defend Paris?

Don't know. It's never been attempted.
