Rationality disconnect?
I've heard stories about Apple taking over for DECADES.
It ain't happening. The story is a snooze.
I believe everyone should choose the platform they like.
But Apple is in NO DANGER of taking over the market. 3.5% to 7% is a doubling. Call me when they double two more times, and there will be a story. I won't call you when they go down in sales...I won't notice.

Yeah, Mac users shot from 1% of home computer users to 1.02% of home computer users. Watch out Microsoft, Apple is comin' for ya!

Fellow John, if you think the Mac OS or any OS for that matter is immune to trojans or virii, then I've got a bridge to sell you.
Nice try, but if you've ever tried XP than you'll know there's no DOS prompt at installation or anywhere except for the Command Prompt application due to the fact that XP is built on NT technology and not DOS.
And since you've used computers for so long, I think that you should know that there's no such thing as too much processing power.
The patient is dead but every time the greiving relatives see a little twitch they all scream that he's coming back to life.
MAC has its greiving relatives, they will believe forever.
My neighbor has a Peugeot, and with little provocation he will extol its virtues until I shut the door on him. That's how MAC devotees affect the rest of us.
I don't give a big brown rat's ass about Bill Gates or MS, but isn't rather obvious that the market has spoken?
My dear friend VoicesCarry, I said nothing of the sort. Go back and read my post over.
All I did was post my personal computing experience of the last 18+ years.
I believe that if one was to query a group of Mac users - vis-a-vis a group of PC users - about their own _personal experiences_ with viruses, trojans, worms, adware, and spyware, that one would find that such experiences of most of the average Mac users would parallel my own. And that conversely, most of the average (I use the word "average" carefully) PC users have had more than their share of these nuisances.
It is a fact that there hasn't been a single virus to escape and infect OS X since it was introduced about 5 years ago.
There simply is no Mac adware or spyware. It doesn't exist.
I'm not saying it _couldn't_ exist. We'll see. But OS X seems very-well-constructed security-wise, and that is certainly a benefit to the average, day-to-day user (as am I).
There is an ongoing brouhaha regarding SONY's placement of self-installing software onto their music CDs. Play the CD on a Windows computer, and the software - unknown to the user - sneaks onto the computer. This simply ain't gonna work on a Mac running OS X.

Well, we've already seen the analysts aren't very good predictors. 26% is a far cry from the 48% they actually saw.
The problem with you and me is we hang around the geek crowd. But I also get out there, into the land of people needing help just installing a new hard drive or network card. And they are the majority.
It could beat M$ if it licensed OS X to Dell, Gateway, etc. But it won't.
Probably not. They couldn't guarantee the quality and brand then. Apple and specifically OS X is marketed on quality and how slick it is. Can you see it sold in an el-cheapo Dell hunk of junk? It would dilute the brand.
OS X is harder to write viruses for. User accounts and system level privileges are strictly partitioned. There have been some exploits written for OS X, but they all require you to enter an admin user name and password to install, and to click a confirmation dialog the first time they execute. That makes it really, really tough to write something that sneaks onto your machine to spam other people with email, capture keystrokes for phishers, etc.
Depends on how you define "more." You're also paying for the design and engineering, and the iMac G5 is a beautiful piece of hardware (both in appearance and engineering.)
<< Yep, Palm Beach County in general. I've been in the Juno Beach area for about a year and a half doing some consulting work and I've never seen so many fake boobs in my life. From young girls to old grandma's. >>
Well the dimocrats all over the country have "fake" brains. But yeah. I'm in agreement with you on the Schiavo case and many stinking things in Florida.
Even Louisiana can't quite get up to the good ol' Sunshine State's standards....
Ummm...you don't know very much about Consumer reports surveys do you? These "scientific surveys" are no more than mailers sent to all subscribers, not all of whom respond. I don't. So unless you have full access to demographics, return rates, blah blah, their numbers should be taken with more than a few grains of salt, preferably washed down with a good Maragrita. BTW, I have both platforms.
Actually, I do... and I was wondering if anyone would catch that and point out that Consumers Union is a hotbed of liberals who would naturally be more inclined to use Macs... ;^)>
They, however, claim they are "scientific" polls. Make sure your Margarita uses genuine rocksalt... Kosher Salt is best.
"How many hours have I saved over 20 years by not doing virus scans?"
Whatever hours you saved were wasted doing something else equally meaningless, given the human state (see: Ecclesiastes).
