Movies are my constant companion, I wear out DVD players like marathon runner wear out shoes. Carpenter has a very unique style, there's a certain off kilter sense of humor in his stuff.

There comes a time when the books are drained. Bacon and Emerson mentioned that. Same for movies. When that time comes, it is time to put some things together for oneself. But, genius has two aspects: one is the idea or insight, the other is publishing it. Who knows, the publication may last and serve as inspiration for others for a week or for a couple, three millenia.

It's what we do, what distinguishes us from other living creatures, squirrels, trees. Men we call ourselves. Men, the word, is from Latin mentis, thinking, from Indo-European mens-, to think. Who knows what good it is, but we do it anyway, and the books and movies are only a running start.

I have 2 DVD players that I bought in 1999 and 2000. I paid just over $500 for each. They both still work.
