We Have a Duty on Veterans Day (Letter from Melanie Morgan - MAF)

Fellow Americans:

The Sacramento City Council is feeling the heat because of you and this Veteran's Day weekend we need to step up our efforts.

After the Council passed a resolution by an 8-1 vote calling for the immediate withdrawal from Iraq and saying that, "we're losing in Iraq," the Council Members have been bombarded with over 1,000 phone calls, emails, letters and FAXes.

This is all because of you. And here's the best part - now the Council Members are starting to back track. Not only have they gone to the news media to "clarify" their intentions, but one Member is now saying he was "forced" to vote for the resolution. Here's the letter that Councilman Steve Cohn has sent to his constituents:

First, I believe that we should not be having this debate at the City Council. I believe the City Council should never vote on foreign policy or other issues that are not matters of local concern. In fact, the City Council's Rules of Procedure specifically prohibit the Council from doing so. Unfortunately, despite my urging and that of Councilman Robbie Waters, we lost 7-2 on a motion by the Council to suspend those rules so that the Council could consider the resolution on the War in Iraq. Therefore, I was forced to vote on the resolution, despite my protest that it was not a proper issue for the Council to consider.

Did you read that? He said "Therefore, I was forced to vote on the resolution..."

These people are obviously uncomfortable with the spotlight on them - now the world can see what they've done and they aren't too proud of it.

So, now it's time to step up the pressure.

I need all of you to send an email and make a phone call to these people.

Be respectful/polite BUT FIRM and RESOLUTE. Please do not threaten these people, but make it clear how ashamed they should be, how disrespectful they've been to our troops and how much they've embarrassed our nation.

I need for them to hear from THOUSANDS of you in the next 24 hours.

The email addresses and phone numbers for each Council Member are located at our website:

www.MoveAmericaForward.org

Look right under the radio ads for the section that says:

"Shame the Sacramento City Council for Anti-Troop Resolution"

Please - ask your husband or wife to also send an email and make a telephone call. Ask your parents/children/relatives to do the same.

I know that if enough people speak out then this Council will no longer hide from the public, and they will be forced to revoke this resolution and apologize to our troops.

Please go to our website for the contact information and send an email and make a phone call to each member:

Sincerely Yours,

Melanie Morgan

City of Chicago city council recently made the same resolution...nary a peep of opposition.
(Except for Mayor Daley's silence on it....his only son is in the army)
