America's most dangerous group

Dear Robert J. Samuelson, Our records show that you haven't yet registered for the benefits of AARP membership, even though you are fully eligible. . . . I look forward to your joining us.

Among AARP's 36 million members, there must be many decent people who benefit from the discounts offered on car rentals, hotel rooms and airline tickets. But I won't be joining, because AARP has become America's most dangerous lobby. If left unchecked, its agenda will plunder our children and grandchildren. Massive outlays for the elderly threaten huge tax increases and other government spending. Both may weaken the economy and the social fabric. No thanks.

I recall when my father in law died sudden in 1999. My mother in law without missing a beat presented her AARP card to my husband and I and said they will take care of things. We nearly choked.

They are very dangerous and need to be checked.

"The Gimme - gimme generation."

What's worse, is that they've begun sending ME membership info, and I'm barely middle-aged!!

Geez, I just get over the shock of turning 29 (for the umteenth time) and they start bugging me to join.

;o)

There is a conservative alternative: USANext, formerly the United Seniors Association is a pro-American, right thinking group which advocates free enterprise solutions. Their website is at www.usanext.org

I dropped out after the last Presidential Election. They are liberals from top to bottom and if you compare the insurance and things they offer you can get much better deals shopping around. I never realized so many of my older counterparts were so selfish.
Most of the chat rooms before the election were filled with mean spirited liberals who appeared to care only for self. What most of these idiots, especially those retired from union type jobs, fail to realize is how much of their pensions are tied up in profits from big oil and all their mentors in the Senate are trying to castigate the oil companies. It is a shame that so many older Americans are so gullible and follow the libs so blindly.

Yes, the guzzling geezers. The AARP should be classified as a terrorist organization, along with the NEA.

Like Farm Bureau, its an insurance company that claims to speak for a special group.

AARP, back in 80s or early 90s, also lead the charge to kill a bill for catastrophic health insurance that would have helped many low income seniors - the very people they claim to protect.

Now they're against any mention of any reform involving even optional changes to social security taxes.

They lost my renewal, get better discounts with AAA anyway !

Isn't lower pricing based upon age a form of discrimination?

You can't fire a guy for his age, but you can give him a lower price?

I joined AARP for the 'benefits'. Discovered they are liars and quit. AARP is nothing but an insurance industry scam. It is not an association for the advancement of retired persons as claimed. They should be prosecuted for fraud.

I better get back to work. Millions of illegal immigrants, lazy welfare recipients and greedy senior citizens are counting on me. Thanks President Bush for the new Prescription Drug benefit.

There's no discrimination because their prices are not lower...They're higher!
