It says "calm" returned to the banlieues (crappy neighborhoods) after 20 nights of violence. It then demonstrates the "calm" by saying only 163 cars have been burned, as opposed to 215 the night before. Now that's calm! It also says Sarkozy, the more-right-than-left winger went up in popularity 11%, Villepin up 7%. Even Chirac went up 6%!

Also 50 arrests as opposed to 71 the previous night.

So is Vilepin a more-left-than-right winger? And is Chirac a more-middle-than-left-or-right-winger?

It then demonstrates the "calm" by saying only 163 cars have been burned, as opposed to 215 the night before...apparently burning cars is actually accepted practice in France - one news service today reported that last January first something like one thousand automobiles were burned throughout the country to celebrate the new year - ah yes, the finer things in life.....

So, uh, how do they ALL go up in the polls? Was President Bush included? Did MSNBC or the WaPo conduct it?

Sarkozy is further left than Chirac.

Sarkozy wants to award the muslim immigrants for their violence by giving them affirmative action for school and jobs.

It only means that thay are running out of cars to burn. It's so nutty that the French are using this (amount of cars burned) as a measure of the problem.

e.g. Lets see..should I park my car where hoodlums have torched cars for the last 20 days. or should I park my car a couple blocks over and walk a little. Duh.

As I understand it, Villepin is very left, Sarkozy is not so left and passes for somewhat right in France, and Chirac is almost dead center and is paraded around as the right wing conservative. There are no real conservatives in France as far as I'm aware.
