The former head of the FBI writes a recap of the Able Danger story that serves as a good entrée for those who may have missed all or part of the issue. Louis Freeh, who served as head of the agency for most of the Clinton administration, wants better explanations made public from the 9/11 Commission -- a group that he correctly describes as bureaucrats somewhat besotted by their fanciful treatment by the media:
It was interesting to hear from the 9/11 Commission again on Tuesday. This self-perpetuating and privately funded group of lobbyists and lawyers has recently opined on hurricanes, nuclear weapons, the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel and even the New York subway system. Now it offers yet another "report card" on the progress of the FBI and CIA in the war against terrorism, along with its "back-seat" take and some further unsolicited narrative about how things ought to be on the "front lines."
Yet this is also a good time for the country to make some assessments of the 9/11 Commission itself. Recent revelations from the military intelligence operation code-named "Able Danger" have cast light on a missed opportunity that could have potentially prevented 9/11. Specifically, Able Danger concluded in February 2000 that military experts had identified Mohamed Atta by name (and maybe photograph) as an al Qaeda agent operating in the U.S. Subsequently, military officers assigned to Able Danger were prevented from sharing this critical information with FBI agents, even though appointments had been made to do so. Why?

More bad news for the Special Prosecutor
The Washington Post reports that Bob Woodward was told of Wilsons wife working for the CIA before Novak or Miller and by an Administration official , apparently not Libby nor Rove.
William Jeffress Jr., one of Libbys lawyers, said yesterday that Woodwards testimony undermines Fitzgeralds public claims about his client and raises questions about what else the prosecutor may not know. Libby has said he learned Plames identity from NBC journalist Tim Russert.
If what Woodward says is so, will Mr. Fitzgerald now say he was wrong to say on TV that Scooter Libby was the first official to give this information to a reporter? Jeffress said last night. The second question I would have is: Why did Mr. Fitzgerald indict Mr. Libby before fully investigating what other reporters knew about Wilsons wife?
Fitzgerald has spent nearly two years investigating whether senior Bush administration officials illegally leaked classified informationPlames identity as a CIA operativeto reporters to discredit allegations made by Wilson. Plames name was revealed in a July 14, 2003, column by Robert D. Novak, eight days after Wilson publicly accused the administration of twisting intelligence to justify the Iraq war.[/quote]
Oddly, Woodward says he reported this information to Walter Pincus who says he has no recollection of the conversation. Only Libby, it seems is held to the impossible standard of recalling the date, participants and content of all his conversations. Clarice Feldman 11 16 05

I would love to see this get legs. That a long with the prisongate leak and an investigation of Rockefeller's "secret" trip to Syria and Saudi Arabia when we are at war. Are there any MSM editors out there with ethics and guts? Na, didn't think so.

I too would love to have the previous administration exposed. However, exposing them could come at a price of causing harm to what is now method and means of gathering INTEL and the liberals have demonstrated they could care less about sharing INTEL with the enemy.

Thank you for your post.
I found the article, Haven't Heard About Abramoff In A While? extremely interesting. Mentioned as part of the cultural of corruption" are Dennis Hastert and Trent Lott (No surprises with Trent All-Hat-and-No-Cattle Lott. We already knew that).
Im not going to bother with D after names because that is a given.

If this indictment is not dropped then I can't wait for Little Timmy Russert, Walter Pincus, Andrea Mitchell and the rest to be subpoenaed to give testimony and ordered to produce their diaries and calendars. They will be scared s***less that someone else has spilled the beans such as their underlings.

There is little danger of any such exposure. Using that as an excuse to avoid these necessary hearings is not going to fly. But I expect this to be the line of the Treason Media and the Party of Treason.

More bad news for the Special Prosecutor I'm confused. Did you post this on the wrong thread? This thread is about Louis Freeh's article on Able Danger, as reported on the Captain's Quarters blog. Prior to your post there was nothing about Fitzmas and I can't come up with any relationship.

I frankly am concerned about it being Louis Freeh asking for this. He has not distinguished himself on a single national security issue to date.

Was NOT an excuse, it is recognition of how liberals protect themselves. That soviet style 9/11 Commission was not a "fact" finding commission and had it NOT been for John Ashcroft outing Gorelick's previous wall building it would have been a "slam dunk" against President Bush and the present administration.
Now if there was advantage for liberals in discussing "Able Danger" there is no wall high enough that would stop them. That being the case their tried and tested method of operation is to lie, expose "intel", and point an accusing finger.
I believe they are laying in wait, salivating at the opportunity to have these hearings.
The Wilson affair exposes that liberals have and will use "intel" agencies for their own political purposes and build walls to prevent detection.

The 911 Commission charade didn't work as well as they hoped and neither will investigation into Able Danger. Plus, they do not have majorities in the investigatory committees. This investigation will happen and it will not be pleasing to the RATs. Only the TReason Media believes they have any concern about national security and people are rejecting its lies more and more.
To: justshutupandtakeit
I am looking at how well the rats are able to convince a supposed majority of Americans that Bush lied. Unless there is absolute proof of what Able Danger was, did, and showed, personally I am not interested in another fishing expedition.
To: Just mythoughts
This could expose the destruction of our National Security by the Party of Treason and show that 911 was NOT a mistake or negligence and you think it would be a "fishing expedition"? Fortunately you will not make the decision.
This story is perhaps the biggest scandal in a hundred years and you want it stuffed? I wonder what you would consider important.

"This story is perhaps the biggest scandal in a hundred years and you want it stuffed? I wonder what you would consider important."
I do not want it stuffed!!!! However, the Republican party has demonstrated by that stupid vote in the Senate regarding this WAR they do not know how to FIGHT. I personally do not wish to present them another platform in which to stick their fingers in the eye of our military and by extension our national security.
IF what you claim is accurate then the Congress is the last place on this earth to investigate it, they sat on their hands and let it happen.
We got a pack of play acting republicans on a SOROS payroll, who refuse to allow US to drill for OIL within our own real estate.
We got a sitting senator a liberal Rockey who traveled to Syria and Jordan in Jan of 2002, one month before old Joe Wilson was sent to Niger, who publicly admitted he WARNED them that Bush was taking out Saddam.
John McCain is demanding an amendment that makes us sound like his previous captors, so I have NO confidence that our Congress will ever get to the bottom of anything.
You think "Able Danger" is the key, fine, I do not.
To: Just mythoughts
Since you are so hopeless why do you bother coming to a site where people are actively promoting change? Just go to a poker site and play until the End arrives.
You are apparently also under the delusion that the <5% of the population which agrees with FR are running the show when elections roll around. But the reality is we are a tiny minority and our views of who to elect and how they should behave themselves is pretty much ignored by all.
We can only operate with what we have. Not all the Senators are cowards, stupid or traitors either.

"Since you are so hopeless why do you bother coming to a site where people are actively promoting change? Just go to a poker site and play until the End arrives. "
This is not about HOPE, we are talking about national security and our military. Why no "criminal" investigation? Congress is not the entity that does criminal investigations. The End arrives??? would you even know what event marks that?
"You are apparently also under the delusion that the <5% of the population which agrees with FR are running the show when elections roll around. But the reality is we are a tiny minority and our views of who to elect and how they should behave themselves is pretty much ignored by all. "
I really have no clue what this means, I do not make my decisions base upon what any given percentage of the population happens to be doing or saying.
"We can only operate with what we have. Not all the Senators are cowards, stupid or traitors either."
The majority of politicians are concerned first about getting reelected, else we would not be wanting answers about "Able Danger".
