There are just 102 days before polls open in the race for governor, but Governor Rick Perry's main challenger hasn't said much lately.

Comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn has been relatively quiet since launching her campaign in June.

Strayhorn has a lot of money in her campaign war chest, but lately, many political observers have noted that her momentum seems to be dwindling, just as Governor Perry is picking up steam.

This is quite a story for a race with less then 100 days until early voting starts.

Strayhorn's campaign quiet

There are just 102 days before polls open in the race for governor, but Governor Rick Perry's main challenger hasn't said much lately.

Comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn has been relatively quiet since launching her campaign in June.

Strayhorn has a lot of money in her campaign war chest, but lately, many political observers have noted that her momentum seems to be dwindling, just as Governor Perry is picking up steam.

On a sweltering summer day five months ago, the state's republican comptroller turned months of speculation into reality and ran full speed ahead at incumbent republican Rick Perry.

But aside from some radio ads, Strayhorn's campaign has barely made a peep since then. Perry has compiled an impressive list of endorsements, including the State Association of Firefighters, the Texas Public Employees Association and the Teamsters.

Strayhorn has scored no big endorsements.

Perry has also pulled off some political coups, including placing potential democratic opponent John Sharp at the head of a school finance reform team.

The governor's been highly visible in the state's hurricane response. Even Independent candidate Kinky Friedman has a reality show airing on Country Music Television.

But Strayhorn is standing her ground, appearing as a keynote speaker at a Veterans Day ceremony at the Capitol. She says her campaign is going well, but did not want to answer questions about it on the holiday.

KVUE Online Video

KVUE's Lee McGuire reports "I'll be delighted to talk about that any time any place anywhere I'll be delighted to talk about the issues, where we are going in this state but today, today is the day to remember to respect and to pray for our men and women who are still in harm's way," Strayhorn said.

Early voting in the gubernatorial primary begins in February.

I have to admit, I havent done enough research to determine who to support.
But, just the fact that Strayhorn is opposed to the Trans Texas Corridor puts her ahead of Perry in my book.

"Texas governor race"? Why do we care about the race of the Texas governor? Isn't America the country of nondiscrimination and equal opportunity? Shouldn't everyone be able to run for public office without having an issue made of race? Shouldn't . . . Huh? What's that? Speak up!

Oh.

Never mind.

Strayhorn seems to have some grassroots support. I've started to see her bumper stickers all over the place. The way I see it, it's just two RINOS.. I'll stick with slick Rick over Carole as she seems to support State income tax.

I still think it would neat to hear the MSM say 'Govenor Kinky' just once. I was in CA when Arnold was elected and was surprised that many professional 'news reads' could not pronouce Schwartenegger.

No matter how funny it would be to have a kinky governor, it would also be a complete disaster.

Isn't she Scott's mother? She is as big a RINO as any. Why doesn't a REAL Republican run?

Governor Kinky and the Texas Jewboys from the Lone Star State?

(Before anyone gets offended, Kinky Friedman and the Texas Jewboys really was the name of his band at least back in the 80s. He's never been too sensitive about his heritage.)

(One time I was back stage at the Kerrville Folk Festival, and this swarthy gentleman comes walking up and says hello, and we talk for a while, and for some reason I asked him if he was Flaco Jimenez, and he says, "No, mah names Kinky Friedman, and I'm runnin' for Sheriff of Kerr County, and I'd like your support. I wasn't from there, but I supported him, oh yes I did!)

(I love Kinky but I wouldn't want him as my Governator.)

She is Scott's mother. I remember back in the early eighties when I had first moved to Texas and she was plain old Carol Keeton McClellan, and was the liberal mayor of Austin. We didn't like her because she was too pro-development. Scott must have been about in junior high about then.

I'm surprised KVUE is saying she hasn't been busy, I hear her "Texas Conservative Updates" bashing Rick Perry all the time in Houston. "One Tough Gramma, One Mean Tax Fighter For Texas"

Scott McClellan, the pudgy, unpopular Press Secretary at the White House is Carole Strayhorn's son.

Quiet? That b!tch has a phoney conservative commentary on WBAP every 15 mins attacking Rick Perry for living! Sounds like Ann Richards but more annoying!

I've known Kinky since 1974. Randy Quaid introduced us.

He was in L.A. at the time, trying to generate some interest in his music.

At the time, he was a spokesman for Lone Star Beer and those were some funny radio ads back then.

Hollywood rejected the Kinkster, but New York embraced him and that was where he flourished.

Kinky is bigger than life, has a big heart and has no bidness running for governor.
