"Isn't Tenure great?"
Adjunct "professors" have no tenure, thankfully, so his ass can be canned at the slightest whim of the administration. "Professor" is a term not necessarily applied to holders of doctorates, as it is sometimes applied to any teacher in a college setting, some only having a Master's degree. Most colleges do the Assistant/Associate/Full professor thing, with the Associate level profs having tenure. Adjunct is not a tenure track job, as far as I am aware.
Here is a summary of evaluations of Daly's teaching by students that have had him, as reported on RateMyProfessors.com:
http://www.ratemyprofessors.com/ShowRatings.jsp?tid=711303
According to them, he basically sucks, as the following ratings demonstrate (out of a possible 5.0 score):
# Ratings: 8
Average Easiness: 3.0
Average Helpfulness: 1.2
Average Clarity: 1.2
Hotness Total: 0
Overall Quality: 1.2
The comments all indicate that he sucks as an English teacher, but excels at injecting his liberal vomit into a class that should have nothing whatsoever to do with politics.
English adjuncts are a dime a dozen. He will soon be extinct and working as a bagger in the local grocery store.
Why is this particularly important? Seems to me many interactions between a student and a teacher is a one-to-one message, whether it be via speech, email, letter, whatever. Why does the school misdirect their attention to the "college community." If he hurled a racist or bigoted epithet, for example, how would the one-on-one, email nature of the comment make it less significant?
Not a good school at all and even worse if they don't get rid of John Daly!
Email her and tell her to do the RIGHT thing!
