In the book, Kurzweil asserts that the only thing that could stop the Singularity is a worldwide totalitarian dictatorship. We've had two periods of impressive technological and economic growth, the 1920's and the Reagan era from 1983 to 2000. Both were squashed by the Federal Reserve and the Executive branch. Both eras are still widely demonized.

"humans transcending biology."That list seems like two instances of humans trascending biology, doesn't it?
Wright Bros => humans flying
Moon Landing => humans breathing on the moon
And meanwhile, humans communicating anonymous thoughts without sound or sight on FR.
