As we noted earlier, Woodward described the conversation with his unnamed source as an off-hand one ,denigrating the significance of the Wilson Mission. Woodward indicated this further information about his source:
In the final weeks before the grand jury indicted vice presidential aide I. Lewis (Scooter) Libby on Oct. 28 for perjury and obstruction of justice, Woodward says he was asked by Downie to help report on the status of the probe. In the course of his reporting, Woodward says, I learned something more about the disclosure of Plames identity, which prompted him to admit to Downie for the first time that he had been told of Plames CIA job by a senior administration official in mid June 2003. In his press conference announcing Libbys indictment, Fitzgerald noted that, Mr. Libby was the first official known to have told a reporter when he talked to Judith Miller in June of 2003 about Valerie Wilson.

Would that be good, bad, or neutral WRT the Bush Administration?
My money is on Armitage!
Is he a former administration official?
Did you see this article?
Woodward's Source Never Testified Before Grand Jury
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1525193/posts
Armitage testified.
Absolutely.
He did not tesify before the grand jury but was questioned by investigators. We do not know the subject of the interrogation or even if he was under aoth at the etime.
I hope it was Armitage. Was there ever anyone who looked so much like a hardass but was such a wuss?
bttt
I can't imagine he'd lie to investigators or the FBI.
OK lockup everyone inside of the beltway. We will have the guilty.
Why assume he was even asked? It seems the focus of Fitz' investigation was very narrow--who in the WH leaked Plame's name? I'd bet Armitage was simply asked some perfunctory questions, like the distribution of the INR.
Paul O'Neil
HA! I just proposed the same name on another thread!
Why assume if he had heard that Valerie Plame was being outted by the White House?
Ah, wasn't that the main thing Fitzgerald was suppose to be doing?
I can't imagine he WASN'T asked about her and what he heard about her.
Besides, from what I have read, Woodward is saying his source never talked to Fitzgerald; I would asssume that meant his people also.

I can't recall a time that I heard the name of Armitage without his being involved in some kind of State Department screwup.
If someone wants to indict him, they are welcome to it.
He said his source never testified to the grand jury. If you have anything which goes beyond that, please share it.
And given what we know of how narrowly Fitz tailored his questions it is a leap tp suggest he asked Armitage about his conversation re Plame with anyone.
