Zarqawi threatens a general assault on Jordan. Amman will become a second Baghdad – unless King Abdullah surrenders to his terms, including closure of the Israeli embassy

Al Qaeda’s Iraq chief Abu Musab al Zarqawi is reported by DEBKAfile’s counter-terror sources to have confronted King Abdullah of Jordan with a five-point ultimatum to save his kingdom from a general offensive:

1. Jordan must expel forthwith all American and British military forces.

2. Jordan must close the Israeli embassy in Amman.

3. The training of Iraqi police contingents in Jordan must cease

4. Jordan must shut down prison facilities holding Iraqi inmates.

5. The Jordanian embassy in Baghdad must close and its staff withdrawn from Iraq.

Jordanian, American and Israeli intelligence take Zarqawi’s threats of an offensive against the Hashemite kingdom with the utmost seriousness. They have detected initial signs of preparedness for action among the the arch-terrorist's sympathizers in Jordan.

More detail at Debka.

I think this is exactly true. Zarqawi's attack on the Amman hotels and threat to Jordan's King shows that he is starting to focus on Jordan.

I think the reason is that he is losing in Iraq and is desperate, and that he is delusional.

He's losing so badly in Iraq his only option to keep his little jihad going is to switch the theatre. Unfortunately for him, US forces are a heck of a lot more mobile than the illiterate irregulars that Zarqawi relies on.

Is it a good idea to start threatening the country that currently has one of your failed homicide bombers in custody alive(barely?)? Is it possible that she could be traced back to your or your seniuor operatives (with some persuasion)? Better to STFU and let things blow over, but then Abu is not the coolest head around.

The Jordanians are indeed turning on hims.

Here is another news source about Zarqawi's threats and the defiance of the Jordanians.

Jordanians, even Muslim extremists, reacted defiantly Saturday to threats by Iraq's Al-Qaeda leader to attack more targets in their country and to kill their king. An audiotape purportedly from Abu Musab al-Zarqawi on Friday warned of further attacks against hotels, tourist sites and military bases in Jordan and threatened to kill King Abdullah II.

"He wouldn't dare," said Badour Ashour, a veiled 23-year-old in an Amman square, complaining that the terror leader had ruined the reputation of Islam. "Jordan will remain united like one hand and our determination is one. What he did in Jordan he won't dare to do again."

Jordanians rallied angrily against Al-Qaeda in Iraq and al-Zarqawi following the November 9 triple hotel attacks that killed 62 people, including the three bombers.

I hope we'll let the Jordanians capture him and let them interrogate him.

Back in 1970 (I think it was 1970), King Hussein threw out the PLO when that group threatened his reign.

The PLO suffered a tremendous military and PR defeat at the hands of King Hussein and Jordan's military.

Admittedly, the circumstances back then are a bit different from now but the point remains the same. I don't think King Abdullah, like his dad, is gonna take a lot of s**t from Zarqawi.

Can't argue that, but eventually, if they keep throwing out wild-a$$ guesses, they'll get one right!!

"The arab world will turn on him (hopefully)."

I doubt it....
I'd bet that MOST would be only too glad for him to succeed..

Long, but interesting article about Zarqawi:

Al-Zarqawi’s Rise to Power: Analyzing Tactics and Targets

http://www.jamestown.org/terrorism/news/article.php?articleid=2369831

This article attempts to understand the Zarqawi network’s size in relation to the overall Iraqi resistance by analyzing the movement’s military operations—its strategies and tactics and linking these to the organization’s literature and Zarqawi’s speeches—in order to shed new light on the motives and goals of Salafi-jihadists in Iraq.

Debka is reporting intel type info, therefore some event may or may not happen, so there is some basic uncertainty.

The MSM reports events AFTER they happened, and they still get it wrong, most of the time deliberately.

If you take that into account, Debka is an interesting source. Also, many times when they may be right, the events never become public, so it's never confirmed in the MSM. Sometimes the events are reported literally months after Debka reported it, and by that time people forget that Debka reported it first.

Yes, he is very desperate, quite delusional, and going to wind up quite dead, very soon.

If the King of Jordan were to give in to these ridiculous demands, the Jordanians would have a fit! The majority of Jordanians now detest Zarqawi.
