The article I read does not say if he has backing or not. It does say he wants an education suitable for his child, and is not asking for monetary compensation. I guess that means he is mearly making the point that the public schools in his town really suck- as most do-and he wants the state, the county, and the city to get busy and fix the problems. If that is truly the case here, I hope he gets what he needs for his children, if he is just doing this for the publicity or whatever, I hope he fails.

Maybe they could just blame segregation, and begin bussing, like they did here in Kansas City. 25 years after the initial law suit, the courts ruled that the Kansas City Schools are still segregated, the school district lost it's state accreditation, due to low test scores, and only several billion dollars have been spent so far.

This school disctrict could learn alot from Kansas City!

You're right. Then they need to attack the WHITE LIBERALS and THEN PERSONALLY do something about their demise.

I agree. They need a good dose of Bill Cosby and Walter Williams.

I concur with your reflections on the students themselves.I sub part time in a city that is synonymous with"inner city"and I very rarely encounter a student who is malicious or hateful.
What irks me to no end is the lack of seriousness among most of the teens I deal with. They have no idea how their frivilous habits like being constantly tardy, not bringing materials to class, not doing assignments, etc will impact them in the future.
Contrary to many on this board,I find very few kids who are anti-white.Most just want someone who cares about them to step up to the plate. And many are VERY bright but the culture of the hood discourages them from SHOWING that intelligence.Thats the real tragedy.

Interesting, and I thought it was supposed to be illegal Mexicans that were causing all of our problems. ;-)

The solution is to eliminate public, government-run schools at all levels, K-12 and up. Get the Federal, State and local governments out of the education business. This eliminates about 50-60% of local and state taxes, reduces taxes on all real estate, including apartment buildings, and puts money in the pockets of education consumers to purchase education. Complete freedom of choice. If you don't like XYZ Education Co., send the kid to a different school. Truly competitive, shop for price, quality and content.

Well said, for more on this, articles and commentary etc..:

As a public school teacher, what I noted is, for the most part, the kids who did poorly were the ones whose parents were not involved. It's not a racial issue.
And to say that it is, you would have to say that the bulk of the teachers are doing something to one group (in this case black students) that causes them to fail, while not doing the same thing to the other students. Even if teachers WANTED to waste time on games like this, it would not be possible.

This is so true. I can remember taking a black male student of mine aside and telling him that he was smart, and really should be doing better in my class (he really was, and had quite a charming personality, and I suspect he could go far in whatever he wanted to do). You know what he told me? "I don't WANT to be smart!"
Now, how on earth can I fight that? Where did he get the idea he didn't want to be smart? Not from any school teacher, I assure you. There is an entire culture out there that encourages anti-social behavior, and a lifestyle that pretty well presupposes failure in what most would call the American dream. And I'm blamed for it? I think not!
It would help alot if all parents would turn off the TV and do things with their kids that translate THEIR values, and not the values of the media culture.

I am with you on this one. At the family level is where everything starts.

Until we grab hold of the problems involved,

Good suggestion. I'm glad my dad took the time to be a father. Even though, we went to fairly tough schools, all eight of us (children) have prospered because my father and mother realized that they already had the choice on how their children would be educated.

I really don't want her around public school kids.

My whole neighborhood is full of "those" kind of kids. You see the same with celebrities too. They don't want to be around "those" kind of people either.

Actually, it's set up to dumb EVERYONE down!

Only if people allow it too. Education starts and ends on the family level. It depends on our attitudes, efforts, etc. My dad expected us to have our butts in class and learn something even if we had a rock for a teacher. We didn't get the $400 video game systems nor did we have cable TV. Our homework was expected to be done before TV and playing with friends (when we got older at least) was limited to weekends and only on Fridays and Saturdays at that. Of course, church-related things were of high priority too. Nonetheless, my parents' expectations were high (though not unrealistic) and we kids are the better because of it.

Re your post #23 - Good questions. Here's another one: Has the person who filed this lawsuit ever tried to teach a class of black students in an inner city public school? A school where you can not just toss out behavior problems, unless you are willing to sometimes toss out the whole class? Private schools have a grat advantage over public schools, in that they will not hesitate to EXPEL a behavior problem, due to the fact they refuse to poison the education of OTHER students. Public schools do not have this luxury to pick and choose. As a teacher, you have to manage your classroom, and it is often not easy when some black kids often come from a culture and a background that is literally anti-education. As a teacher, you are fighting EVERYTHING - rap music, violence, no parental control at home, you name it. All these problems come right into the classroom. I do not Pinellas County. If I was the judge in this case, I would tell every black parent in that county they are now REQUIRED to spend ONE FULL DAY PER MONTH in their child's classroom helping the teacher. That's what many private school require. That's what public schools with lots of black kids should require, IMHO.

I think both in a way. The teachers are scared out of their minds and the students are doing nothing.
