New York is listed under safest. I suspect that with huge cities, the massive suburbs, with lower crime, tend to cancel out the more crime-ridden inner cities. Of course, I've also known of several cities that quit reporting certain types of crime to lower their crime rate.

New York is MUCH safer than it was in the Dinkins era and before. I'm not surprised at all to find it on the list of safest cities. Thank you, Rudy Giuliani.

This list is not of "metropolitan areas" (which would include outer suburbs). It's just of the cities themselves which in the case of New York means just the 5 boroughs of New York City.

The suburbs are not included in N.Y.C, stats; NEVER! New York City is made up of five boroughs: Manhattan, The Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island.
