...after they became aware of problems with "light strikes"... Possibly an ammunition problem with hard primers? Did they try other brands of ammo? The same ammo in other semiautomatic handguns?
From the article:
In training, LAPD officers primarily use lower-quality ammunition than is used in the field.

I'm mixed on that. I like the way the Glock performs in a tactical situation, but I notice I actually shoot better with my single-action Vaquero.
Kind of like comparing "spray and pray" with "stand, aim, and shoot".

including other Glock models after they became aware of problems with "light strikes," which occur when a loaded cartridge is hit by the firing pin but is not hit hard enough to discharge a bullet. When I changed the trigger pull from 5.5 lbs to 3 lbs on my Glock 30(.45ACP)
I started to have light strikes on all reloads and some factory ammo,
but a visit to a Glockmeister, who increased the hammer spring solved the problem.

Thanks for a generous excerpt!
I wonder who the misfires were occuring to? I know my teenegers have more misfires with the Glock because they don't hold it firmly enough. I can only hope that police officers wouldn't have this problem.....

Crap, I just bought a G36, Glock's smallest 45. Glock should have replaced all of the LAPD guns outright instead of messing around with part replacements. I read a bunch on the LAPD SWAT team going with a customized Kimber II 1911 in 45. I betcha Kimber gets a bunch of business out of this.
The Glock manual seems to have been written by a tech writer with a bit of 'tude, IMO.

I bet it is a combination of light striker and maybe hard primers.
I once bought a lot, maybe 1000 rounds of surplus 9mm ammo. It was really cheap. One day my Nephew and I decided to do some plinking with it. We were using a Browning Hi-power and a Beretta model 92, an early one.
The Browning would fail to fire maybe half the time. It would fire every time on the second strike. The Beretta fired every single time. We fired maybe 200 rounds that day.
Now there was really nothing wrong with the Browning. It had never failed to fire before and never did again with regular ammo. Still it made me like the Beretta a little bit more.

Los Angeles police officers have been ordered to stop using Glock 21 semiautomatic handguns in the field after recent reports that the weapon misfired dozens of times during training and firearms qualifying sessions, department officials said Friday. Whatchoo got to say about that?
My Glock 27 has never misfired, nor has your wife's or yours during the hundreds of times I've fired them.
I don't know about the 21.. maybe a bad lot?

"light strikes," which occur when a loaded cartridge is hit by the firing pin but is not hit hard enough to discharge a bullet.Wonder if they're using ammo with CCI primers, which are notoriously harder than other primers....

Keep the Glock but use it and clean it regularly. I got my first about 17 years ago and now own 5 more including a 21. This doesn't happen to me but I use and clean the weapons regularly.
