Many things on the market have potential fatal effects ~ many people are helped by them, or find some benefit, and others don't.

When it comes to drugs, not all drugs are suitible for all people. I can't use statins for example ~ and every time you hear an advertisement about them they give you a warning about a "rare" genetic difference, etc., all of which is true. But should statins be taken off the market simply because they would probably kill me if I continued using them?

Were the parents THAT mindless? Didn't they take the time to ask the doctor if their might be side effects? And I can't believe doctors who would go along with a 14 year old having sex. Everything is just you know... up for grabs these days. Including standards. Now there's an old-fashioned word liberals run away from because its too judgmental. The funny thing is while the parents here were completely NON-JUDGMENTAL about their daughter's sexual behavior, they're more than willing to be judgmental about the drug company's birth control patch. Liberalism is so screwed up.

No they shouldn't. I know that statins can be bad but I was not aware that they could be fatal. There are so many different sides to different drugs, some good and, obviously, some bad.

I took Accutane almost 22 years ago. It has very serious side effects and required monthly blood tests to determine if my liver and other internal organs were not being damaged. If taken by pregnant women, it can cause serious birth defects. This potential hazzard was documented long before the drug was put on the market, and female patients are required to sign a release before being allowed to take it. Every few years some regulator at the FDA threatens to ban Accutane, because some really stupid women get pregnant while using it and have horribly deformed children as a result. Should Accutane be taken off the market even though it is the most effective drug against cystic acne and works when every other course of therapy fails?

"I can't use statins for example"

I heard an advertisement recently for one brand where the disclaimer stated that there was no clinical proof that it use would prevent a heart attack.

You may not be any worse for wear not taking them.

Are you speaking of CPK levels through the roof (for me they went over 4000), incredibly sore muscles, and feelings of weakness? If so, you are the first person I've come across with the same reaction to statins as I have. And yes, it can quickly become fatal. I was lucky that my doctor ran the blood test a few days after starting them.

Wonder if we're related? :)
