gee, i guess they better start thinking. 1st off make them work. nj has a work program for those on wefare. if they arent working then find a state that wants deadbeats. i feel sorry for any 65 year old woman who has to take care of her grandchildren. but theres daycare.and why arent the parents paying her child support? nj has high rent, but if you look you can find cheap rent, maybe not in the best area but you can. newark isnt the nicest place but neither was new orelans. if i lost everything id move somewhere that had housing and jobs and i would stop whining and get on with life. this govt/fema help was never supposed to be life long help. i am sorry its ending by the holidays but taxpayers can not justify hotels and help forever. all good things come to an end. so get up and get a job and get on with life. i am sure she can find some kind of a job and the childrens parents can send her some money to support her grandkids. if they have passed away she needs to look into ssi. lifes not fair in general but thats how it is.

Government paying hotel costs for evacuees who moved out

SOUTHFIELD (AP) - Hurricane Katrina evacuee Anthony Wells Senior moved back to New Orleans three weeks ago. So did Yarnell Green. But both Hurricane Katrina evacuees still have rooms at the Southfield Hotel - courtesy of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
The rooms are among nine at the hotel - formerly the Southfield Ramada - that are registered to evacuees who have moved out or who could not be located. The government is paying at least $325 a week for the rooms.
Hotel administrator Wallace Wells says some residents left without checking out and it's possible they will return or that family members are using the rooms.
A FEMA spokesman says the hotel reimbursement program is nearly impossible to police and that FEMA would learn of problems only if "someone calls in a tip."
This is really a disorganized mess!
Can't New Orleans be subject to having to pay the federal government back? They are the ones that created this situation and their corruption and dependency conditioning.
I think once the ports are open again, New Orleans should be subjected to some payment plan to reimburse.
Color me jaded......but I believe that most have had a lifetime to "get on".... Those that feed at the trough will do so until the feed runs out.....

The ones I saw mostly sit around all day drinking beer and watching TV. I've heard no talk amongst them about looking for a job or trying to improve their lot.

After reading the article on FEMA's website, it sounds like they will still work to provide housing, just not expensive hotel rooms. I don't know what the complaints are about.
What?! And miss out on all the free cable channels?
I wonder who is going to pick up the tab to renovate these hotel rooms after they leave.

If all these refugees that are in need are dispersed to other states...

Are you kidding me? Don't you realize that the government was supposed to pay for their room, board, clothing and food until the entire city of New Orleans has been rebuilt and ready to move into!?!

---I thought that was what the first $2000.00 checks that were given were for. That is enough to rent an apartment (maybe not high dollar, but a roof over their head)and get a job. I have read a lot of people have found jobs and have settled in taking care of their families by now. If they can do it, it CAN be done by others if they look hard enough.
That's the one.
The real question in my mind is where is the mother (or mothers)? Are they still collecting a welfare check for the kids while grandma is doing the same?
Instead of offering "free" housing, FEMA should have offered to pick up 50% of the rent and let them pick up the rest. The slugs would then have more incentive to find a new location and job instead of sitting around eating junk food all day watching Oprah! while waiting for somebody else to buy them a new house or welfare apartment back in New Orleans.
Is it any wonder some people act this way when they have been mired in government dependency on the Welfare Plantation all of their natural lives? Now would be a good time for them to change their parasitic personal habits - an excellent time, in fact!
