BAGHDAD, Iraq The U-S military in Iraq is downplaying reports of insurgent attacks against American and Iraqi installations in Ramadi.
Local police and residents had reported widespread attacks on the town. The U-S military says only one rocket-propelled grenade was fired at an observation post and there were no injuries.
A police lieutenant says at least four mortar rounds fell near a U-S base, and residents say scores of masked gunmen ran into the streets.
Meanwhile, the military says an A-P Television News video of the insurgents is a publicity stunt. The footage shows insurgents walking through a market street and a residential neighborhood, and firing four mortar rounds. They appear to be relaxed.

I was watching one of those "foreign" news broadcasts that show up on independent TV in Washington DC, and they covered Ramadi just as the insurgents scripted it. They have all the film of insurgents walking around SOMEWHERE as if they own the place -- but there is nothing to indicate WHEN the video was taped. They had no independent film, just film obviously shot by one of the insurgents walking around with his gang.
They barely touched on the American insistance that it was staged, saying only that the coalition was "downplaying" the story, making it sound like it is true but we don't want people to know about it.
There are rumors circulating about widespread attacks in Ramadi. As of 2 p.m. (6 a.m. EST)there were no signs of any significant insurgent activity anywhere in the city," reported Capt. Jeff Pool, public affairs officer for the Second Marine Division in Ramadi.
"At 9:30 a.m. an RPG was fired at a joint U.S.-Iraqi observation post which resulted in no damages or casualties. That is all. No other attacks.".....
