..how simple things would be if customers were allowed to pay for individual channels and not be forced to take "packages", but don't look at the simple solution, make it as confusing as possible so that it has 37 different approaches and this way we can drag this out another 10 years.
Remember cable TV's biggest selling point back then was NO COMMERCIALS

Don't those who are afraid of television have a v-chip and a remote control with an off switch?

Mine has an easy parental block of anything above a certain rating or of certain channels. We even had the Disney Channel blocked for a while because of a certain program.

Television bombards children with sex and violence, entertainment-industry critics say

The cry of "It's for the children!" should make all of us grab tightly onto our rights, no matter what the context. Social conservatives just don't want anything they deem objectionable watched by anyone, period.

billorites Every cable system that I know has a rating system that can be programmed to block out any show the user wants by individual channel or by content.

Some of the most offensive stuff is in the advertising. The blocking systems won't block that.

I hate bundling but this much is certain: if they "unbundle," the cost of every channel will go up.

"Censorship is something Republicans would do well to stay away from."

AMEN, my brother!

so the liberals in hollywierd pushed the limits time and time again of what they could get away with, now they're whining that they have gone too far and want to go back to the way it was?
leave cable alone, do something important, like take the gun control laws back to the way they were (pre1934.)

It's been nearly two years since pop star Janet Jackson bared her breast and its jewelry on live television, fueling calls for Congress to crack down on TV indecency.

I was in Viper Dining Facility (Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan) listening to the roar of conversations, clattering trays, and silverware when Janet Jackson bared that boobie. It was suddenly Stone Cold Silent............, then cheers and catcalls broke out.

I am of the opinion that soldiers like to see breasts. It sure was a morale booster there.

Uh, no. Ted Stevens is a conservative from Alaska and Brent Bozell is a conservative from stupidville. They are the ones who want to "go back to the way it was."

"He is still an idiot. IMO"
Yeah, but he is a SENATOR. When he was elected, that automatically made him an expert on anything and every thing. The more times he is reelected, the more he wants to control anything and everything.

"The term "Republican" means nothing to me anymore. e.g., McCain"
You got that right!

he's a republican, doesn't mean he's a conservative.

Like they did with the Commerce Clause and Eminent Domain?

But Stevens wants to craft a bill that doesn't just increase the penalties on broadcasters who use the public airwaves. He said he wants a bill that also addresses the TV programming that arrives in the home via cable, satellite and, eventually, the phone line.

That's unconstitutional. Congress has no authority to do that.

McCain/Feingold is unconstitutional, too. But somehow the USSC found an 'emanation' in the 1st Amendment to let it stand. Something tells me the same will happen with this crap.
