"And I do not believe that anyone but a committed anti-Semite will deny that Israel is not a democracy
Am I just really tired, or is there an extra negative in here?" You are still more alert than most. Context indicates that an extra negative is in the sentence.
It should read, "And I do not believe that anyone but a committed anti-Semite will deny that Israel is a democracy."

Am I just really tired, or is there an extra negative in here? No, there is. Sayyed is an older guy and sometimes slips in his grammar a bit. (I have the impression that he does all the editing for his publications himself.)

(I don't worry about the war turning into "Vietnam" in Iraq; I worry about it doing so in Congress.)
