A representative of Shiite firebrand cleric Moqtada Sadr was found shot dead in his car on Sunday morning in the southeast Baghdad neighborhood of Zayouna, said source in the defense ministry.Sheikh Abdel Salam Abdel Hussein al-Maliki, who was Sadr's representative in the southern neighborhood of Al-Shaab, was killed amid a spate of assassinations of religious political leaders across the country, in the run-up to Iraq's December 15 parliamentary elections.
Sadr, who has massive support among poor and disaffected Shiites in Baghdad slums, as well as across the south, has become a major powerbroker in Iraq.
US forces also reported a roadside bomb attack on one of its convoys by the western Baghdad neighborhood of Khadra.
"It looks like there were two wounded who were taken to a nearby medical treatment facility," spokesman Master Sergeant David Abrams told AFP.
Three members of Iraqi security forces, including a police lieutenant colonel, were also killed in a number of other separate incidents on Sunday morning, police said.
Red on Red ping!
They got the wrong guy...
Must have been a message for old fatass Sadr. You're next Doughboy!
This is one case where I'm rootin' for the assassins..
At least until they complete their mission..
Hopefully, they will do it by blowing themselves up..
That way we get rid of two problems at the same time..
Good idea.
Inside job?
I would love to think that it was a Special Ops mission.
