Carson's book, Silent Spring, has not only been demonstrarted to be junk science, but her illinformed indictment of DDT has lead to the needless deaths of many millions.

How about a memorial to all the blind children who would otherwise have their sight if it weren't for this evil woman.

Because of Rachel Carson, more people have died than from Hitler, Stalin, Mao, and Pol Pot combined
When I've contacted the Sierra Club and other organizations and asked them to provide hard scientific evidence of the damage that DDT does, they either send me some emotional junk with no hard scinece studiesm or they ignore me.
I'm waiting to see if Silent Spring is still on the school's reading list this year. If it is, I'm going to start a one woman campaign to get it removed!!

This is nothing more than doublespeak for the democrats taxing the city into the ground. They need the donations (i.e. naming rights) and PR in the worst way.

Great thread.
I live in Pittsburgh and if it is renamed for this "woman" they should then paint the damn bridge BLACK, instead of the yellow that it is now!

The left is trying to erect a monument, or symbol, for Carson because they know a landmark fight is coming on this front which will threaten to undermine the entire 'environmental movement' and it governmental machinery. If people think she's a 'genuine' cultural hero and even has public monument status, her credibility as a scientist will be beside the point. This is extremly shrewd and effective tactical move by leftists.

Rachel Carson, a driving force behind the modern environmental movement, grew up in a modest homestead in Springdale Borough near the Allegheny River. For the budding marine biologist, the river's waters were an early inspiration. Ah, the Allegheny Whitefish...

How about a memorial for the uncounted millions of dead who died of insect borne diseases who would otherwise have lived if it wasn't for this woman and her crusade against a beneficial chemical.
