TBN Suspends Hal Lindsey Show
Contender Ministries ^ | Dec 5th, 2005 | Jennifer Rast

Posted on 12/05/2005 3:15:43 PM PST by laney

The Trinity Broadcasting Network has suspended Hal Lindsey’s television program, “International Intelligence Briefing” for the month of December, and possibly permanently. According to Lindsey’s website, his show was suspended because, “Some at the network apparently feel that my message is too pro-Israel and too anti-Muslim.” A phone call and email to TBN have not received a response yet. If and when TBN responds, I’ll update this post.

In the interest of full disclosure, I should say that I’m not in 100% agreement with all of Hal Lindsey’s statements, and I’m also not the biggest fan of TBN. While many of their programs are quite enjoyable, I am troubled by others. I believe the opulent gold-gilded set of their “Praise the Lord” show sends the wrong message - one of worldly materialism. One person in the TBN hierarchy has made statements that I believe undermine orthodox Trinitarian doctrine. With that said, I don’t watch enough of TBN’s programming to make judgments beyond this. However, if TBN did suspend IIB for the reasons Lindsey has stated, this will be quite troubling. From what I have seen on Lindsey’s IIB show, he has done nothing more than express the truth regarding Islam and shared in God’s view of Israel. If Lindsey’s accusations are true, I have to wonder how much this decision has been influenced by a large, “mainline” denomination that has taken the disturbing step of divesting from Israel and blaming them for the fact that innocent Israelis get blown apart by Palestinian terrorists.

As more information is available on this, I’ll share it.

The reason people are trying to silence Hal is because of his theology and eschatology. He is dispensational in his theology and does NOT hold to replacement theology. The folks running TBN are replacement theology, dominion theology, kingdom now etc. They believe the church replaces Israel and therefore they get the land and that it no longer belongs to the Jewish people.

"Supporting Israel" means different things to different people depending on their theology.

Hal Lindsey is synonomous with the pre-trib rapture doctrine. Invented by John Darby of England, popularized by Scofield and lindsey.

In other areas I agree with him, his stand on conservative moral issues, etc., but as the modern high priest of pretribism he is a false prophet.

No one in church history believed there was such a thing as a pretrib rapture - not until the 19th century when Darby invented it.

Van Impe also states that a Pre Trib Rapture is a given.
Hopefully if there is I sure hope I am raptured!

TBN and Hal Lindsey and Van Impe's pretrib rapture - all peas of the same pod, in my opinion.

Afraid of offending muslims?!?!?!

How many muslims are watching TBN anyway?

Might as well cancel OLN programming because some wildlife might get offended.... Humph and harumph!

Is this the same story that has been running on FR for about three days?

I like them both... as well as Joel Osteen. I've watched TBN for years (almost from its birth)... but the showmanship stuff is getting old. I think HL is sincere....and has some good points. :) Merry Christmas!

Hal is one of those guys that predicts the end of the world, makes tons of money off of it, and does it again 5 years later.

Yes the end of the world can only be close for so long. Plus all the talk of the end being near had to cut into the bilking of their suckers.

For the most part I find TBN very embarrassing. I wouldn't want to be associated with them.

I wouldn't want to admit to knowing anyone that watched them except to make fun of them. And I don't see how they can sleep at night after they have Benny Hinn on.

"TBN and Hal Lindsey and Van Impe's pretrib rapture - all peas of the same pod, in my opinion."

.. the radical and absurd Hal Lindsey/Grant Jeffrey/Tim LaHaye consortium

"For the most part I find TBN very embarrassing. I wouldn't want to be associated with them."

Ditto that.

.. it has become clear that certain questions dealing with eschatology, in particular the questions, "Did Jesus predict a soon return? Did the Apostles expect a soon return?", have become grist for .."

It would not be Christian to be PRO Islam.

What gives?

I refuse all TV Church until they bring Tammy Faye back.

The eyeshadow running down her cheeks, the makeup, the VERY, VERY heavily laquered hairdos have never been matched.

So what were you saying about "commercial enterprise?"

These people are entertainers. I don't watch.

I think the Van Impe's are fine Christian people however their definition of "Christian" is VERY broad and not in agreement with the Bible - that's my problem with them.
