I see that I was wrong to think you were defending them.
Certainly the U.S. military and State Department should have been more careful .I believe Americans had gotten complacent to the point of almost arrogance in thinking our boys can whip anybody. Motivation and patriotism don't make up for inferior weapons or poor planning. It couldn't have cost that much to have Combat Air Patrols flying over Hawaii as part of readiness and training;BUT 9/11 found U.S. with few fighters ready to scramble,certainly not the dozens of squadrons ready to launch on a monment's notice that were supposedly the norm in the 1960.I consider it criminal there was no real air protection or patrol for either period.
