That's odd, he didn't mention the 50 cruise ships he is going to purchase so that he can station 1000's of Indian application programmers 12 miles off our coast.

He doesn't need to do that. He can just buy the country and people and just cram it all into California.....(oh yeah! and Seattle!)

Interesting that the usual suspect hasn't chimed in yet. Guess he needs more time to get marching orders.

Is it actually possible for Detroit to be a worse place to live. Kabul is beginning to look more inviting that Detroit.

LOL! You do realize, of course, that this is all Linux's fault and that MS is forced to do this?
Nevermind that MS is supposed to be the market leader, not a follower.

I would not worry about that, the laws in India do not make it very safe to develop over there. The company I work for got burned on that one and now no longer do business in India.

Can you give details on your company's experience? Is it documented in the press? We are up to our eyeballs with India and China outsourcing in chip design right now, and it is good to have hard data to backup American concerns.

Much of the money would go toward improving the software giants research and development capabilities,
Newspeak alert.
When Microsoft refers to research and development, they primarily mean software development, not research. In other words, they're trying to avoid saying, "We're hiring Indian programmers instead of American programmers."

Smart move by Gates.
India offers a huge market with educated consumers.
To top it off, research there is a fraction, or less than 20% of what such research would cost at the home base.
A huge bang for Gate's buck who not so long ago found himself in the fangs of a Clinton Reno coup to bust up his conglomerate for the sin of not feeding the Clinton money grabbing through.

except for those willing to work... At what wages? The Blood bath for IT professionals of down sizing and outsourcing pretty much destroyed positions at senior level responsibility and salary.
I guess they can get Volkswagens and join the Geek Squad.

The company I work for got burned on that one and now no longer do business in India. I got burned for half a million.
