TRAN considers state Senate run
Assemblyman VAN TRAN, R-Westminster CA, announced Wednesday that he's formed an exploratory committee for a possible run at the state's 34th Senate District, setting up what could be the county's most hotly fought election next year.
TRAN likely would face another political veteran, Assemblyman TOM UMBERG, D-Santa Ana CA.
Democrats held an edge of 1.7 percentage points over Republicans in the district's voter registration, making it the most competitive legislative race in Orange County. It also would be one of the most competitive in California, which means it would attact money from throughout the state.
The seat is being vacated by Democrat JOSEPH DUNN because of term limits.
