Blindfolded Santa Hanging From Noose At Home Upsets Neighborhood

A large blindfolded Santa hanging from a noose from a high tree in a man's yard has angered homeowners in a Florida neighborhood, according to a Local 6 News report.

The Santa doll, which neighborhood children can easily see, was put up by homeowner Ron Stroia at his home located on 555 West 50th Street in Miami Beach, the report said.

"It's just wrong, I mean who would want their children to see this, and it reminds adults of lynching," neighbor Estelle Farnsworth said. "It's just nasty, there is no spirit of Christmas in this."

The Santa also has his hands and legs bound by some type of wire.

"Now the kids are sad with that, you know, because they say it's not fair with Santa," neighbor Tanira Giacian said. "Santa should be around bringing their gifts, looking for the gifts, and not hanging on a tree. They're just kind of scared of that."

Since the display was put in the tree, neighbors have called police to get it removed, but officers said there is nothing they can do because the homeowner is protected under the First Amendment, Local 6 News reported.

Stroia would not talk with reporters, but did say by telephone that it's his right to display the Santa whether neighbors like it or not.

"This has really caused a big stir in the neighborhood, this is just cruel," Farnsworth said.

Why is it that people who degrade freedoms always claim to be upholding them?

I think this fella is going to see that others have First Amendment rights, too.

They published his address and everything....hehehe.

I don't get it. Is the Santa supposed to be symbolic of how the RATS are killing Christmas? Or is it just a prank.

It is indeed the guy's right. It's also the neighbors' right to stop speaking to him, stage counterdecorations in their own yards, etc.

But I admit to having minimal sympathy for the kids who are "scared for santa". We didn't tell our child the silly lie, and if our neighbor had such a display I would explain to my kid that it's one guy's stupid idea of a joke. People need to grow some skin.

Sounds like a hate crime to me. If he was hanging a black dummy, a cross-dressed dummy, or a dummy in a yarmulke there would be no question and Stroia would be behind bars even as we read this.

To anyone living on that street... take your kid to a psychiatrist for trauma and then sue him for everything he has. Then I bet Santa will have company.

I'd guess it's symbolic of how Santa is supplanting Jesus.. or something. I dunno.

You mean like having his home address spread around the world?  This guy might not like having his mortgage/liens and other public info REALLY public but that's the price one pays for being that stupid.

Just saw the clip on FOX, it is rather creepy.

Offended kids grow up to be teenagers.

He will pay for this, over and over, till he moves, or climbs the tree himself, in ten years.

Bets?

"It's just nasty, there is no spirit of Christmas in this."

Absolutely right. And just as true is the fact that he has every LEGAL right in the world to BE that nasty. The fact that he would choose to do so simply indicates a misanthrope of sociopathic proportions, a man the neighborhood would be wise to shun. And if a few ... hints ... were dropped that he might be more comfortable in a different neighborhood, that would be doing him a favor.

I think it's a statement about Christmas being taken away. I could be wrong though.

I mean think about it. If someone were to tell him he had to take it down, then we'd see where the Rats were going with the "holiday". And if they don't - he's able to say "see what is allowed but Jesus isn't?" (of course, it's private property so he can do whatever he wants - unless the city wants a higher tax revenue!) LOL

If that was a black Santa the $&it would hit the fan. Funny how Constitutional rights are subjected to color coding.

It's similar to that neighbor that wrote the cuss words in his foot tall grass after they complained to the city about the grass height. LOL
