This is not a hard decision for the courts or the governor. Tookie has been tried and convicted of his crimes. He threatened to kill the jurors, planned an escape from prison that involved killing guards and one of his "friends" who testified against him. He shows no remorse and accepts no responsibility for his actions.

There is nothing that happened in the commission of the crimes or since that time to show Tookie is worthy of clemency.

So he admits to murdering three people. The penalty is the same.

The Court should have sanctioned his attorneys costs for filing a frivolous motion. Take note that it was unanimous. Stanley Williams apparently didn't grow up all these years in prison.
