US refuses to commit to avoid attacking Iran
Jerusalem Post ^ | 12/13/5 | JPOST.COM STAFF

The United States on Tuesday International Atomic Energy Agency head Mohamed ElBaradei's call to state explicitly that it has no plans to launch a military strike against Iran.

The spokesman for the State Department in Washington asserted that at this point the burden of proof lies with the Iranians, and they must follow through with their commitments to the international community.

ElBaradei claimed that an announcement in which the US insists it would not attack, might encourage Iran to cease its nuclear development plans, according to Israel Radio.

Robert Joseph, the US Secretary of State's aide said last week that he believed Iran would not back down from its nuclear ambitions and would even risk UN sanctions.

All because Jimmy Carter wouldn't deal with the problem on his watch.

Jimmy Carter MADE the problem. He was responsible for deposing the Shah in the first place. Much thanks he got from the Ayatollahs.

I think Israel can handle Iran and Syria pretty easily simultaneously so it's not the US Iran should be concerned about at this time.

We really need the DEA to sweep the UN for drugs,
starting with ElB's office.

Yeah, I know he's just positioning himself for a
cut of the next oil-for-food scam, but still ...

What a collosal idiot. IF anything will stop them it will be the revving of airplane and/ or tank engines. Maybe ElBaredei can get them to quit by letting them admire his Nobel Peace Prize - the one that certifies him as a schmuck.

All because Jimmy Carter wouldn't deal with the problem on his watch.

You said it. Furthermore we got stuck with Carter after a Democratic majority in congress staged a coup against Nixon. From my home page:

In 1972 Nixon was re-elected in one of the most massive landslide elections in U.S. political history, defeating George McGovern and garnering over 60% of the popular vote. He carried 49 of the 50 states, trailing only in Massachusetts.
Richard Nixon

The coup that overthrew President Nixon was largely orchestrated by Senator Edward Kennedy to reverse the left-repudiating 1972 election and serve Kennedy's presidential ambitions. This coup led to Communist victory in Vietnam, toppling dominoes in Southeast Asia, and encouragement to left revolutionary movements worldwide. It also allowed Kennedy and his liberal media allies to identify the tragic Vietnam War not with President John F. Kennedy, who committed the first 17,000 armed troops there, but with Republican President Nixon.

Carter was weak and worthless. This is a matter that will probably be handled through Israeli preemption.

They know we're going to bomb anyone we damn well want to. Let's just assume that they are on the path to joining the nuclear club and decide whether or not we're okay with this happening.

We really have been wasting our time and our fighting capability in Iraq. The elections this week are certainly not going to resolve the deep internal divisions of that country, and our marines rebuilding schools in order to win "hearts and minds" is just plain silly. The Iraqis are going to solve their own political and security problems, and they'll have to do it without us if they are ever going to stand up by themselves. We need to pull out to the borders, and start turning our attention to Iran and Syria. We should have done that over a year ago.

We aren't in the ME to nation build, we're there to protect our interests. The bigger threat has always been from Iran, we really should have started with them after securing Afghanistan.

"...call to state explicitly that it has no plans to launch a military strike against Iran."

How about this jackass get a commitment from Iran to state explicitly that IT has no plans to launch a military strike against Israel? And tell Kofi cup to take a Koffee break and resign.

I think Israel can handle Iran and Syria pretty easily simultaneously

How can Israel "handle" Iran "pretty easily"?

If you are talking conventionally, explain how Israel, logistically, would accomplish this.

What type of war could you envision between Iran and Israel?

If you are talking a missile war, do you know the status of the ABM system Israel has, versus the quantity, range, etc. of Iran's missiles?

I would like to hear what you mean, because I do not know how Israel could handle Iran "easily". Oh, I suppose a surprise sub-launched cruise missile attack with nuclear-tipped SLCMs would do the trick. Short of that. I would like to hear how Israel could handle Iran "easily". What would they do (conventionally)--fight through Iraq to reach Iran? Those would be pretty long supply lines through hostile Iraqi territory. What if Syria (or even Egypt) were to attack Israel while Israel is stretched out trying to inflict a hurt on Iran?

What about all the Russians in Iran? Do Russians man the Russian built SAMs?

I'm not sure you thought this through.
