ABC Promotes George Stephanopoulos
Earthlink News ^ | December 12, 2005 | AP

Posted on 12/13/2005 3:26:09 AM PST by John W

NEW YORK - ABC News has appointed "This Week" anchor George Stephanopoulos as its chief Washington correspondent, adding duties to his weekly job at the helm of the Sunday morning political talk show.

Stephanopoulos, about to start his 10th year at ABC News, will also report for network programs "World News Tonight," "Nightline" and "Good Morning America," ABC News President David Westin said Monday.

He will also oversee the network's coverage of Congress with the impending departure of reporter Linda Douglass.

The new job title will put Stephanopoulos, an adviser to President Clinton before joining ABC News, in line with his Sunday-morning competitors: Bob Schieffer is chief Washington correspondent for CBS News, and Tim Russert is Washington bureau chief at NBC News.

"This Week," where Stephanopoulos has been anchor since 2002, is currently third in the ratings behind NBC's "Meet the Press" and CBS' "Face the Nation," but Westin said it had its best November sweeps performance in three years.

Stephanopoulos will anchor a one-hour ABC News special on the nation's political divisions next year, Westin said.

This Georgy Porgy?

"Gary Aldrich, the retired FBI agent who wrote the best-selling book Unlimited Access, has been demonized by the establishment media, thanks largely to the machinations of George Stephanopoulos, the spinmeister who used to manipulate the media from his White House office" ...

From this 1997 article

Who better to "spinmeister" the news [?] at ABC?

Guess that's why Westin makes the big bucks.

Even though "Face the Nation" has sucked for three years, we're still going to promote Stephanopoulos because, by God, this year it didn't suck as bad.

The media cant understand why conservative Republicans claim that they are biased and have an agenda. Maybe its not that they cant understand, but rather that they refuse to understand.

FNC's existence may have something to do with that.

I used to be a major Fox News junkie. But now except for Brit, the Beltway Boys and Cavuto, I generally find FNC to be unwatchable. I can't stand those idiots on Fox & Friends - either during the week or on the week-ends.

Have any of the alphabets EVER promoted a conservative to Washington bureau chief? OK, they will claim that their current chiefs are non political, but there is obviously a percieved bias, even if there is not a real one (there is).

How about just ONE time promoting a "percieved" conservative to one of these posts. Just once.

There wont be any bias in this show. George not only had a brown nose his whole head was brown. If Clinton hadnt been flatulent Stephanopoulis would have suffocated.

I think its very appropriate that they appointed George to preside over the final winddown of ABC News, along with the rest of MSM TV. This ought to be fun to watch as they become less and less relevant and eventually totally irrelevant and consigned to the dustbin of TV anachronisms

about to start his 10th year at ABC NEWS" and "anchor since 2002"

Who knew? This article says his show is on a par...ratingwise?...with Shieffer's and Russert's. I don't think so.

I'm so pleased that ABC has allowed another Democratic Operative to head it's press. He will be so good to help me with my run for the presidency. With his help, I will be able to take over America and institute the Democratic Socialism my party has envisioned for America.

/Sarcasm OFF

When x42 was about to end his 2nd term there was an FR discussion as to what the relatively young Mr. Clinton would do after his term ended. I suggested at the time that "objective journalist" would be the perfect job for him.

As the Stephanopolous gig at ABC News illustrates, there isn't a dime's worth of difference between someone who is arrogant and superficial enough to be a liberal politician and someone who is arrogant and superficial enough to claim to be able to report objectively.
